I was just in the middle of a transaction with him. He wanted four of my domains. But it was too easy - no haggling, said it was a great buy (for him), etc, not stuff you normally see in a negotiation. So I stopped to read his posts and check him out. Seemed like a legitimate NPer and ebayer.

I was sending him my paypal info and got a message that his account had been closed.

Why does that make you safe? Can't they just do that all from within the stolen PP account, especially if they have that persons email account too.

I'm not 100% sure but I think you can't open the dispute twice.

it's true, hostgator who scammed me using stolen paypal accounts send the payment then said to paypal unauthorised , by the unauthorised victims credit card will not be charged , paypal is not giving money to seller so there will be no credit card fraud , then Snapnames give my domain back, I will not sue the scammer , so the scammer is free of police

Funny (or not so...) they were the only 4 domains on my list of 69 that are at Godaddy. I should have noticed that!!.

Scamming 101: never tell the scammee that the price he's quoted is a "good deal" ~ definitely a red flag.

I think this is a great thought. I couldn't open the dispute again when Paypal closed the case for my $500 case - I lost the money and the seller laughed at my face. However, I couldn't open up a second dispute case.

Has anyone tried this? Will legit PP users and domainers do this? Won't PP put a mark on their account for too many disputes?

I would think so. Plus it sounds shady of me as a seller to ask a buyer to open and close a dispute before I send the name. I don't think I will use this method, thanks for the idea though, never thought of that.

just a quick note to everyone

yes, my account was hacked today. Thanks to NP mods who closed it, I hope, there was no big harm made to any of you.

anyway, I´m back and those of you who knows me here, on DP or ebay knows that I´m a trustful member

btw - I was really scared today, when I realized that my account was closed - hopefully, I´m still member of this forum, it would make me sad if I was forced to go out of community

We were scammed by someone for a tangible item (this was before they had the seller protection deal) for $100. We did not have the funds in the Paypal account, so the amount was taken out of our bank account directly. So we lost the item and the money. Just answering an earlier poster's question about what happens when the money isn't in the Paypal account at the time they find the card was fraudelent.

Sorry to hear about all these scams going around. Sounds like a rough ride for many. Unfortunately in these cases the privacy laws protect the criminals more than the honest people. Perhaps Congress needs to take up that cause in allowing information to be released under certain circumstances so that prosecution can be initiated.

Suggestion?

Here's a little suggestion, perhaps everyone can fill in the if's and's and but's:
Make A NP Escrow, It would work the same way as GAF. The buyer would put the money in the NP escrow, it will sit in the NP bank (just like np's) once it goes there it cannot go back out. Then the money is sent to the seller from a mod or? ect...I the seller have the money now and you can't chargeback that? About them doing a charge back on NP, well i never heard of them doing it on GAF, I don't know exactly what they do or how it works but i have done business on GAF and the buyer would not send me the work until the money was place in the GAF escrow, once I put the money in the GAF escrow, they felt safer and the transaction was completed. After the hacked accounts hopefully get squared away, perhaps with some tweaking, this could be a good idea. There is no other place that knows the in's and out's of domain name ect.. than a name pro. The seller would be charged a little amount for the service. That way the $50.00-$100.00 sale will not have to pay a $50.00 escrow fee, more like $5.00-$10.00 or % or something.?

From GAF:
Escrow Payments

GetAFreelancer.com provides users with escrow payment options to help projects get completed smoothly. Service Buyers can set aside a specific amount of money into an escrow account on GetAFreelancer.com, for a specific Service Provider. Both users can then view the payment in the escrow account, but only the Service Buyer can complete the payment, from the escrow account to the Service Provider. The Service Provider is the only person (other than GetAFreelancer.com staff) who can cancel this escrow payment. This gives each party half of the control over the money in the escrow account.

If the project gets completed, the Service Buyer can transfer the money from the escrow account to the Service Provider. If the project is cancelled amicably, the Service Provider can cancel the escrow payment and the money will return to the Service Buyer's account. If there are any disputes over a project, GetAFreelancer.com staff must be contacted before any money can be moved from the escrow account.

GetAFreelancer.com encourages its users to send and receive money with the escrow system, because it's another great way to make sure everyone gets what they want from a project.

To manage your escrow payments, login to your account. The escrow menu is underneath the project list.

Contact us if you have any questions about Escrow Payments.
