The best, pronounceable ones that pass the radio test are long gone. And I seldom see any good ones dropping.
There are still still plenty of 5L left, ranging from mediocre to so-so.
Most of those showcased here belong to the so-so category imo.

I hand reg good domains every week, it's just a matter of searching.
I search for 5Ls all the time and I might find a decent one once or twice a year. What 5Ls are you hand regging every week? Give me 5 examples of your premium stuff.

I've recently got CoBiz.com. To my surprise, there are many sites with the prefix of CoBiz. Anyway, my intention of acquiring this name was to create a COmmunity business directory. I've already started working on this subject.

I think the radio / phone test is overrated when it comes to brandables. For example a name as simple as Yahoo.com could be argued as not passing this test. Hearing it on the radio you might think YaWho.com

Google , why not Gugle ...

I think that it is more important for a name to look clean and easily be pronounceable / memorable.

There are still some decent names out there to be had, but there is a lot of junk that people register regularly. The less imagination a person needs to use the better.

There are a variety of styles of 5Letter brandables and some will be more desirable than others in the years to come.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=420873

Sometimes some decent names get dropped though

Just my 2 cents.

Yes, but names that are not even pronounceable do not deserve the brandable label

I call BS. Maybe in your opinion. Are you going to sit there and tell me that a name like AEIOU.com or ABCDE.com are not brandable?

Ok here are some random thoughts while I have some time, sorry for the randomness of them

I have a special place in my heart for 5Letter .coms. I see the potential for these names in the future.

xxxxxxxxxxx
I do agree that there is a lot of (what I think) junk mixed in with SO SO names etc.

That being said.

I regularly see decent sales of 5L.com that I would not have paid reg fee for. That is the brilliance, different people are wanting different style domains. Some might want a certain acronym, others might want an an E or I keyword domain, palindrome, repeat letters, etc etc etc.

It all boils down to where one might want to put their money / gamble. Some types are definitely a better/safer investment than others.

This thread is great for ideas, learning, and feedback.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=420873

I predict that in the years to come folks will get a good sense of what good / desirable 5L.coms are. Right now there are a lot of people just shooting in the dark imho.

I registered a lot of junkier 5L.coms in trial and error before I got a feel of what works.

It takes time and luck to find semi decent names currently, so if you are regularly registering these sort of names that is probably not a good sign.

I still think that it is best to look at these sort of names as a long term investment.

Usa666 - some good points you make. But as sdsinc says there's a lot of garbage being reg'd - mostly without much thought... If you go back enough pages to see what was reg'd a year ago then you will find a lot of them have been dropped and available to reg again.

As with any domain "the beauty is in the eye of the beholder" - and this saying applies a great deal more to brand domains than most other categories.

It is possible to hand reg expired goodies here n there but it's rare. Aftermarkets and reseller markets are probably the best places to find anything worthwhile. IMO

As for acronyms, that's a whole other market! When you start getting into that category then it's not so much about 5ls or brands... But acros are more suited to 3/4Ls --- going into acros in 5Ls is taking a big risk (unless of course u find a known popular acronym).

I reg'd these two:

ziepo.com (I think it could be easily brandable within the debt reduction/consolidation industry)

jagpo.com (This one I think would do well within the games/video gaming industry)

I am accepting offers on either one, contact me via pm if interested.
