This just proves that there are still gems available in the .nu extension. It never hurts just to check for words like "DVD", or "WEB". Never assume they aren't available!
Just a note to .nu holders,
watch your expiry dates as these domains expire
earlier than they should.
my expiry date is Aug 9th 2008
The domain was already cancelled from
my account on July 20th!
They attempted to renew earlier this month, with another
"attempt to renew" scheduled for July 20th (still 20 days early)
but instead of renewal, it was cancelled....
In your case, they have expected your payment from July 9th to July 15th (Renewable Period). After that, the domain was entered into the 5 days Pending Delete period. On the 5th day, it was deleted from the registry.
I don't think it was a proper action. We are paying for 12 months, not for a 11 month period. I suggest you to contact the registry and inquire about the deletion.
Good news
I heard back from my registrar, and
even though the domain was removed from my account,
they were able to renew it for me at the regular price
and put it back in my account....yippee!!!
Hate to spoil your thread but the reason why "CV.nu" and "18.nu" was sold at that amount is because 18 in sweden is like sweet 16 in the us. "18.nu" = "18 now" in swedish.
They just fit "nu" or "now"

Because your giving an illusion that .nu is soo great. There are many downsides on the nu-domain. Just the transfer fee is around $250 or more and now the island is trying to get the nu-domain back.

Well,
No one is giving an illusion. We rely on solid sales and express our thoughts about the extension. .NU is a highly popular extension in the Scandinavian countries.
The $250 transfer fee was set by the registry, and it is not in our control. Don't you think the reg fee for .pro is ridiculous?
Even at the transfer fee of $250, I can show you a list of solid sales in the range of $xx,xxx.
Dave, I agree 100% with .tv. If you don't like .nu, just don't read this thread. Having sold DVD.nu for $4,300 just 3 months after I paid $64 to register it, I really kinda like .nu names! Yes, please explain your other comment also.
Now, back to business, for those who "are" interested:
SS.nu sold for $1,190 on 07/16/08 at Sedo
UR.nu sold for $461 on 06/14/08
Ok first of all. The biggest reason why those prices where so high was because Nunames and Sedo emailed all the spectators about the auction. Without that, there would never be so high offers for the domains.
Nunames emailed all nu-owners and Sedo emailed both Swedish and foreigners about the auction.
I didn't say I dont like nu-domains, but your giving a illusion without all the facts behind it. I own a couple nu-domains.
Yes, your DVD.nu was a good catch, I also bidded on it, but registering all "generic" words in the nu-domain wont help, why? Because the combo between english words and the nu-domain isn't good.
Just look at the list of the domains that were sold, many of them fits Swedish ppl or NL/Scandinavian ppl.
About the Nuie Island story, I found a old article about that but it wasn't long time ago (a few weeks) the story came up on DN.se, so Im guessing they still struggle to get the domain back.
It's questionable "why" now Nunames using the topdomain for auctions. To me it looks like they trying to bring in all the cash they can now. Not just trough the auction but the redirecting of unregistered domains to parkingpages.
