It's a big risk to proceed without professional valuation. I already spoke
to industry experts and they prohibited me to do business without
valuation..

Without manual valuation nobody will buy. You'll sit on your domain for
years in this case, paying renewal fees to your registrar. Just think about
it. So sooner or later, you'll have to obtain an appraisal. Why waste time
now?

As a seller, you can use a valuation certificate to sell names to other
buyers. I cannot do the same because I don't keep control over your domain.

I'm still interested in your domain. Hope you'll change your position. I
simply don't want to take additional risks.

Thank you for understanding. I'm looking forward to do business with you.

Mr. Withrow,

Its the responsiblity of the purchaser to have evaluated the value of the product prior to offer of purchase. I consider your written offer from you the purchaser had followed through with your evaluations of the product prior to an offer.

Please send the amount offered to the invoice via paypal. If the monies are not deposited in three business days the matter will be handled by my legal council.

Thanks,

It's a standard practice to show independent valuation to buyers/resellers.
Nobody will do business without it. I'm a businessman and have no intention
of changing rules which help both parties to avoid additional risks.

Of course, investors never take into account auto-generated valuations. So
manual valuation is a "must" too.

I read the following information about appraisals at:
domainexplorer . org/Archive-09-2009/91637524.htm

Thank you for understanding. I'm looking forward to do business with you.

Unfortunately, they know enough to NOT make an offer. They simply asked you: "Can you accept 5,000 USD?". That's still in the negotiation stage (if it were real). If they stated "I will buy your domain for $5,000", that would be an offer.

Caution Domainssecondhand.com= scam !!!

I'm glad that I found this thread before I fell for the scam !!!!!
I see that they are using a different name too.
Thanks for exposing these people.
I hope this will help anyone else.

BELOW ARE THE EMAIL CONVERSATIONS BETWEEN THEM AND I......

Sedo is a good broker and we can use it for transfer/transaction.
Unfortunately , Sedo is not acceptable as an appraiser because your names
are listed with them and they are not independent. They are interested in
earning 10% commission on every sale. I need appraisals from a company
which is not interested in selling your domains.

I heard many appraisal companies often made inaccurate appraisals. So I
cannot accept appraisal from each and every site. I will only accept
appraisals from independent appraisal companies I know and trust.

Hello,

5,000 USD is a good starting offer.
It is only the domain name. There is not a website with the name.
Before I can evaluate the domain name, I need to know how serious you are about buying the name.
The money I spend will have to be recouped somehow.
I too am willing to negoteate. I accept Paypal payment.
Please respond A.S.A.P. about your offer.

Thanks

I too received an email from DomainSecondhand.com last week. This is the first time I had ever received one of these scam emails, but I knew right away it wasn't legit. To make sure, I came here and did a search for it. Sure enough here it is laid out nicely for me to read about.

My email was perhaps a little more harsh then most as I replied with "Get f*cked, scammer." Haven't heard from them since.

thedomaininvestors.com is a scam !

Here is the mail I've just received :

Dear X,

Happy New Year!

Can you accept 15,000 euros for the following package:
X.com
Y.com
Z.com

Do you sell domain with a web site or just the name?

Domain without content is ok with me. Web site is not necessary.

Have you had your domain names evaluated in the past? I mean domain appraisals. Without valuation we cannot be sure in the sale price. It's very important for me in terms of reselling too. But we must engage a valuation company with REAL manual service. So I will only accept valuations from independent sources I and my partners trust.

To avoid mistakes I asked domain experts about reputable appraisal companies.

Please check this blog with suggestions from other sellers and buyers:

If, for example, the valuation comes higher you can adjust your asking price accordingly. It will be fair. I also hope you can give me 12% - 15% discount.

After you send me the valuation via email (usually it takes 1-2 days to obtain it) we'll continue our negotiations.

What is your preferred payment method: Escrow.com, International wire transfer, PayPal.com or something else?

Hope we can come to an agreement fast.

Looking forward to your reply.

Richards

It's just a scam, as I have found other posts with almost the same text word by word on this forum.
For example :

http://www.namepros.com/401699-domai...-a-scam-3.html
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=401699

They have just changed their domain name.

Beware.

---------- Post added at 05:34 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:25 PM ----------

I found it strange they were offering 4 times the prices listed on sedo.com :-)

---------- Post added at 05:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:34 PM ----------

They redirect you there : http://www.researchappraisals.com

That's where they make money : 49 EUR for one domain "manual" appraisal.

Yups.. Gary the smart guy.. I mean how silly can one be. Copy pasting his response to a forum post which shows that it's what he is suggesting. I said to him suggest me a few names. He did and I went for the expensive one, he goes NO NO that will cost you a lot. I said yah I know u are buying so why not

dear mr. PRESIDENT of the domainvestors.
starting price 100.000$.
no negotiations.
cheers

Dear (edit),

Happy New Year!

Can you accept 95,000 USD?
Do you sell domain with a web site or just the name?
Domain without content is ok with me. Web site is not necessary.

Have you had your domain names evaluated in the past? I mean domain appraisals. Without valuation we cannot be sure in the sale price. It's very important for me in terms of reselling too. But we must engage a valuation company with REAL manual service. So I will only accept valuations from independent sources I and my partners trust.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=401699

Thank you for understanding. I'm looking forward to do business with you.

if this bot wants an evalution so badly go buy one yourself.
as a serious businessman it wont hurt your deep pockets.
and afterwards you pay me 100.000$ anyways.

thank you in advance

I'm looking forward to do business with you.

question: do we have a case with this guy ignoring my warning (and all the future warnings to come by all people hes trying to rip of) and willingly causing all the pain ?

he says he wants to pay 5k for a domain that I have, I just have to get an evaluation done. I told him if he wants one then he can pay for it, lol.

Hey,

Thanks for this forum as it clearly confirmed my theory of this being a scam.

Of course since I am not getting my money I am getting some fun out of it by stringing the guy along until he snaps / goes crazy.

Scam me and I screw you ... simple laws of the world

Cheers,

mrph

Damn, I just read this forum after I have paid for a manual appraisal. I think I lost €49,- for nothing.

I also have received exactly the same emails. In my case, the sender was 'daniel friedman' (email: friedman / a / thedomaininvestors.com).

I don't think now, I can see forward to my appraisal anymore. Let's wait and see if I receive something. If not, I will tell the police via email. (Hopefully, they will put more resources on internet crime).

Regards,

Oscar
