You're more liable to watch webcams on your mobi or even do some basic banking, than try to get a loan...

imo - at 3hrs there'll be a couple of testers, at 1/2 hr left a couple of moves and than a decent, but not crazy, battle beyond.

Wouldn't disagree at all.

Predictably, I would add that at 'minus X hours left', there will be a large number of people kicking themselves that they were too busy (agonizing over whether or not to bid any further on one or two names that they noticed were still under-priced in the 'extra time' period) to notice that there were many other names which they would have never believed would go for so little and hence didn't include in their shortlists to focus on.

I know I'm not explaining what I mean all that well, but by now many of you probably know exactly what I mean and are probably sick of hearing it :-)

big bidders aren't as coy as us though.
we have smaller budgets.

dunno when auction ends, but oif outside office hours some of these big companies (if they want) will just drop in a proxy bid up to a high offer before say 6pm and then go home, lol

mere mortals like us will have our budget (slightly over and probably on card!) and be watching, praying and bidding late.

also, not having any on the front page and finishing all at same time is a complete f*ck up by sedo. we all know this & if any senior sedo people are reading this, you need to take your head out of your ass & listen to us.
if i was mtld i would query sedos fee too.

I might have missed the discussion on the Reserve Prices, but I'm wondering, why did Mtld set reserve prices in the first place. Seems to me that they would just put the names on auction and let the marketplace operate.

Probably for the same reasons most of us set reserves, so gems don't go for too cheap.

So I might conclude that Mtld is looking to maximize their profits at the risk of not selling "gems" and thus hurting the development of the .mobi ecosystem.

They let some of the gems go without any reserve at all, e.g. free.mobi.

There are also further auctions scheduled very soon, both at Sedo and elsewhere (in fact free.mobi was double-booked).

I don't think high reserves is the biggest problem right now, although in different circumstances it might have been.

I see where you are going with that, but trust me, it's all good. We're getting names to earth from the heavens and those reserves set are rather realistic for the most part. If one doesn't sell now, it'll sell next time for that reserve+. As far as ecosystem, we'll be ok with or without these names. But now they are out and if 5 out of the successful bidders develop and 3 market in the papers and 2 on tv, i'd be a happy camper.

As far as all finishing at the same time, don't forget that bids placed at the end of the auction extend the end time by 8-10 minutes (I forget exactly). So there will be time to jump around a bit between ones you're interested in, assuming you're not the only one bidding on them...in which case it wouldn't matter anyway.

I don't really use Sedo much at all, so correct me if I'm wrong here.. Doesn't time only get extended if the bid was within 5 minutes from closing?

If so, there's nothing really stopping anyone from making fair offers 6 minutes from close and any domainer that say, wanted to place bids on 10+ of them just wouldn't have the time to do it.

The one thing I think this is good for -- is stopping 1 wealthy domainer from grabbing up a ton of underpriced .mobis... Chances are that unless he puts up a nice proxy bid beforehand, he'll miss out on a few -- which just may be a good thing for some of you who've placed bids.

5 minute rule - Any bid in the last 5 minutes resets the clock to 10 minutes remaining. Any subsequent bids continue to reset the clock until 10 minutes lapses without a bid. You can easily place bids on 10 names in 5 minutes and with all the attention on these auctions I expect we'll see at least a few dozen names get hit with the time extension.

As of noon on today ..... 50/100 have reached their reserve prices. Many more are close.

I've had a struggle getting through SEDO's site for a while this AM, really really slow loading and error messages. Hope that these problems do not happen again tomorrow with all the .co.uk names and .mobi names all going at once (at least before extended auction bids that is.) The .co.uk name auctions end just 45 minutes before the .mobi names start to go. Some extended .co.uk auctions might overlap into the .mobi time. Sure will be a lot of eyeballs on SEDO around noon tomorrow.

Thank you acc, there is lots to say on this subject but let me just get the technical bit out of the way first:

Right now the sedo home page does load for me but the main .mobi page (the one that in the last couple of days has been accessible directly via the home page ad) displays only a blank page.

Anyone else?

Edit: Never mind, it works now.

Does anyone remember a time when the number of auctions on the 'closing soon' page has been anywhere near the current number (680 auctions right now, including the 100 MTLD ones)?
