yeah prices are moving up a bit ... but for complete picture of the hit-or-miss bids on eBay, should also note:
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/short-domain-discussion/358387-the-llll-com-sales-discussion-thread.html

November 8th 2007:
RBYQ - $8.50 - 6 bids
FLZK - $13 - 10 bids
BNHZ - $15.50 - 17 bids

November 9th, 2007:
CZNU - $11.50 - 9 bids

November 10th, 2007:
NZXI - $11.38 - 12 bids

These low end pieces are the "canaries in the coal mine" - so far they've all been chirping a bit above reg fee, so good enough but certainly not yet "Domains Gone Wild" rocketing up to the $60 drop-catcher fee equivalent ...

I have my own WXUD up on eBay now closing in a few days, expecting it will be a "hit" rather than a miss, but who knows ...!

I have MZYO.com up right now, current bid is only 12.50 with less than an hour to go :

Link here

I forget which one it was, but a LLLL.com just finished at 370ish.. wasn't paying to much attention.

looks like mzyo was up to 15.50 in the last 10 minutes, bet it goes up at least a few $ more in the last 60 seconds ... closed at 16.50 - I tried to snipe it at 16 but then got taken out in the last few seconds ...

Looking for the LLLL closing around 370 but not seeing it in quick scan of recent eBay sales ...

I think CZNU @ 11.50 was a steal - could make a Czech Nude photo gallery site very happy some day!

(note to self: really should start paying more attention and pick up a few more of these up for myself - pretty much anything under $14 at this point)

Talking about "low quality" letters makes sense up to a point but really more just as shorthand for "low frequency" letters ... It can be a useful rule of thumb for estimating chance of finding an acronym or company name initials - but its certainly not the final word in determining value for every single one of the more obscure possibilities ... (Definitely better for me if most others stick to this dogma faithfully while I'm still sorting through the bargain bin though!)

As requested,

U is not Premium!

Nice Price!

I was suprised to find an acronym for GORU. U is good for Unit and also for University. I always relate "Premium" with the traditional acronym but I think the definition of Premium may be an evolving definition as it is still early days for domains.

Geriatric orthopaedic rehabilitation unit (GORU)

Definition

A GORU is ward or part of a ward in which beds are used for the treatment and care of inpatients of sixty-five years and over who have had an orthopaedic injury requiring an operation and need long rehabilitation.

Notes

Patients admitted to GORUs are managed by both geriatricians and orthopaedic surgeons but one consultant, usually the geriatrician, is recognised as being formally responsible for the patient.
The most common orthopaedic injury resulting in admission to a GORU is fractured neck of femur.

it isnt a VCVC... it is VCC? (as we know Y can be a vowel or a consonant)

right, UDZY == vccv ...

in any case, eminently pronounceable and a bargain for the price it went for. I wonder what the seller might have expected to get for it on eBay auction at this point in time ...?

The Y does take the role of a vowel (making it pronounceable) in this case. I think the price is fair for what should be considered a VCCV.

I know full well that I'll be hit with a 15k renewal bill for August-November regs... No point waiting until July to start paying that down! A couple thousand a month makes the experience pleasant.. Coming up with 15k at the last minute is anything but pleasant -- and why would you want to go to the bank and get a loan (or worse, put it on a credit card) and substantially cut into your profits?

ones who didn't buy will certainly kick themselves for lack of foresight - unless they somehow did better investing in a different area (which seems quite possible actually - everyone has their own angle in this growing market)
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=358387

as for those doing a few quick flips under $20
well it depends - for sure will be wondering WTF were they thinking if they sell a large part of their holdings so early in the game ... OTOH it's good to diversify a bit - so in my case I have a portfolio that is a bit "overweight" on the low end - so I don't mind putting a few of these out there to help fund more purchases a step or 2 up the ladder in the $20 to $50 range now ...

But while I'm glad to round out my selection with at least a few VCCV and VCVC when I can find some still within my limited budget ...

I do have to take a careful look at the assumptions I'm making when doing these trades - ie selling 2 such as NQZC and WXUJ to buy 1 IHQA or OVYJ (as I have recently done though actually maybe at a slightly better ratio than 2:1 thanks both to good buyers and willing sellers on this board).

While I hear people predict that CVCV and VCVC will out-perform the low-end on a percentage basis (also taking annual reg fees into account) - I really don't know that it makes sense to overtrade in a desperate scramble to "upgrade" my LLLL portfolio.

Still I'll take opportunities to make some sales at a fair price to buyers (and maybe help broaden the market base a bit in the process) and also to bid on anything I see as undervalued and try to make a few good pickups in a higher price range still within my comfort zone.

The end result from these trades should only result in a more balanced portfolio, with more than enough of my reg-fee diamonds in the rough still hanging tough but now hedged with a few of the more "conventional wisdom" semi-premium pieces.

(Actually - hmmm - also I think I've been buying more than I've been selling! So money continues to flow in the "smart" direction to build up my own small stake in this area.)
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=358387

Remembering this is a sales report thread ... so enough philosophical verbiage - here's some real numbers ->

NQZC (previously reported as a $5.56 pickup on eBay November 1st) - flipped a few days ago on NP for still a nice price of $14

IHQA purchased Nov 7th here on NP for $30
OVYJ purchased Nov 9th here on NP for $25 (!)

(I think I already posted about IHQA and OVYJ, not sure if I included exact dates and prices though).

EJDW won in NP auction Nov 10th for $14

also a few of my own sales in progress - WXUD on eBay will be closing tomorrow night, already bid up to $10.51 last time I checked ... and ZVQH sale here on NP pending. I'll post those when they're finalized hopefully in a few days. Also should note I've had WXQO and ZVQG on offer here with $15 BIN for a few days but haven't got any serious offers for those. (Which is fine, does me the favor of kicking myself later for letting them go so cheap!)

ok ... to be continued ...
LLLLater everybody ~

I have a few brandable ones for sale (on offer) here on NP, but i might stop the offer. I see the market is getting much stronger and SEDO looks like a good market right now for all LLLL.com's

Nice Thread!

I expect (just guessing of course) that prices will tend to move in something akin to a "three steps forward, two steps back" pattern ... If that's the case (in a very approximate sense) then selling a few on the "third step forward" while buying more on the "second step back" would be a nice trick to learn.

But it's probably delusional to expect a reliably predictable trading pattern to persist for long (in theory, the peaks and valleys will be smoothed over as people start selling rather than buying that much sooner before the peak in anticipation of the "two steps down" phase and likewise buying on the dips to the point where there aren't dips to buy on anymore). So buy and hold strategy makes good sense vs. trying to successfully "time" any apparent rhythm in this fast-moving market ...
