Can someone help me I am stuck :)

I am new to the domain and website development world. I am self taught, which is to say I know NOTHING. I am an intern for a company that deals in the realm of finance. The partners are old and are not very computer or website savvy. I have taken it upon myself to redesign their very basic website by using templates and such. The thing is I dont even know how to work with the free templates that I have downloaded off the net. There is so many files within the zip folder that comes with it I dont even know where to start. I am not familiar with code html or css. I downloaded the free trial of dreamweaver cs3 but am caught in a rut. Can someone please be willing to help me along in this endeavor I would appreciate it greatly and will donate all my NP as I accrue it . Any help and tutorials that I have read are a little to advanced for me in this early stage.

1.Open the source file in any graphic software if you want to make some changes in the layout design. (I am not sure if you have a source file like PSD of FLA or something like that )

2.If you do not have source file, there must be an html file in your zip folder. Open it in Dreamweaver.

3.Edit the template text links according to your company’s website links.

4.Replace the sample logo with your website logo.

5.Replace the template images with your own.

6.Place your content under related links pages and save each page with a relevant name. Such as about us, contact us, sitemap etc.

7.Change TITLE and META TAGS of according to your webpage content.

8.What else you want? Place the URL of your company’s old website if you need further assistance.

Good luck with your project. Let me see when you upload your 1st website.

Designing from scratch is going to be too difficult even if you use templates. The templates you have found are most likely php based which is too advanced for you right now. There is no way you can aply these templates to your website.

On the other hand you could easily keep the existing website and replace a few graphics and colors. This will make it look pretty new.

If you use microsoft frontpage instead dreamweaver then you have a better chance creating the website from scratch using a template. Frontpage has integrated templates and they are all html based.

For a beginner dreamweaver is the wrong way to get started. You should start with microsoft front page. If you have microsoft office on your computer you have probably frontpage as well.

I would describe frontpage as the web design version of microsoft word. If you have ever used microsoft word you can use front page as well.
