It has to do with the coding. They are using a header that is not compatible with regular PC browsers but works fine on a phone. Either is allowed in .mobi code compliance from what I understand. There is a bit more info available here. http://dev.mobi/node/277

AIDS/HIV
Good news for .mobi. I saw baidu also expanded their business to Japan. Baidu does better (more relevant) indexing for Chinese (and Japanese Kanji) than google.

Yes, Baidu.com is the biggest search engine website in China. I used to use it when I was in China. in fact, most of people in China search sth. on Baidu.com, not google.

I guess I slipped up on this...

I had seen it two or three weeks ago (not sure when) when I was actually on Baidu.com (I use it and google.cn or google.com) to measure returns on IDN's that I might consider.

Some of my rants (what? me?) I mention time and time again about the Chinese efforts to dominate IDN, internet with .cn, pressure from the government, and the common thread to all the ccTLD's and IDN mess will be .mobi. This adds credibility to that claim. Asia is accepting mobi by the millions along with India (reports are youth is mobi crazy in India), great news coming out of Europe, and picking up steam here in the US.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/dot-mobi/336499-baidu-mobi.html

With all the fanfare of the new releases I thought this may have already popped up on the radar on one of the threads.

So, a latent YIPPEE!

Am I understanding you correctly, Baidu.mobi is marketed on Baidu.com homepage? All I see is question marks on my screen because I'm not set up to display the Chinese writing.

Shhhh...don't tell anyone...but I was looking to reg it a while back while I was on Baidu looking at IDN (chinese character in particular) results. Then it dawned on me...I wonder if this was regged? It was. Then I wondered who had regged it and went to see if it was parked or a site? Guess what? It was a site! And guess what, it was Baidu!

Is that IE7 or FireFox?

Some will show up as question marks and black diamond or boxes no matter what, it seems.

How will they know to go to Baidu.mobi?

IF they are promoting the forwarded Baidu.mobi that may be a step in the right direction ... but much more significant IMHO would be a developed website also being promoted and advertised!

Good point, like I said ... IF Baidu.mobi is being marketed on the .COM homepage (or otherwise) it is a positive first step, in my view. Developing it and adding it to the "ecosystem" - like the BOFA.mobi example - will be much more significant and meaningful for the .MOBI extension!

Just my two sense.

It doesnt forward if you access it from a mobile phone, you are probably using your PC. it is a positive first step whether they are marketing it on their .com site or not, it will be even better if they are though. this is even bigger than bank of america and we arent talking about some small little chinese website. There are only 6 websites on earth bigger than this one! It doesnt take a genius to know this is great news for .mobi

Isn't that insane? Google is global, paid dearly to do business in China, is not the number one search engine in China (much to their dismay I am sure), and still no active .mobi presence.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=336499

Perhaps Google does not monitor their own search results regarding trends, number of cell phones in use, the growth, etc. Not that I am questioning Google cash machine, but perhaps they should hire someone to do something like, um...make a google.mobi?

I'll even venture to say that some members on this forum would LOVE to have that on their resume...google.mobi designer/developer.

My oh my, perhaps they are still banking on the success of m.google.com.

companies like google can use m.google.com and also google.mobi since it costs pocketchange for them to set up a .mobi. I am sure once things start rolling they will have theirs running.

On my phone I can't even see the url after the page is loaded so it doesn't matter anyway. It could redirect to LookAtMyLameDomain.ug and I wouldn't know or care. The front door is all that matters.

Yes, it is a fake registrant. I have called Baidu.com company to confirm it. They said they didn't own baidu.mobi. I think it will be not a long time that the baidu.mobi will redirect to other sites.

I think it is real registrant.

Domain Name:BAIDU.MOBI
Registrant Email:zhang_jing@dns.com.cn

dns.com.cn is the biggest registrant in China. It got invest.mobi for me during landrush.

Baidu.mobi is known as an sucessful example of mobi registrations in China during TM period.

If true, this is crippling news ... what did the Baidu.com company say specifically with regard to the ™ name / Registrant (and referenced email address) in the .MOBI Whois, and are you sure you spoke with the correct contact there?

The following is the contact of Baidu.com. Anyone in China can have another confirmation?

For the whois information, I don't think they are the contact of baidu.com.
(0) The current registrant is not the original one of baidu.mobi. It is only created at the time Created On:08-Jan-2007 06:26:07 UTC. Check the registrant ID in http://whois.mtld.mobi/index.php.
(1) The registrant (zhang_jing@dns.com.cn) is not for Baidu.com, but it may be an employee of dns.com.cn. It should be xxx@baidu.com.
(2) The tel of registrant is also not for baidu, but it is the contact tel for dns.com.cn.
(3) The Address is wrong, baidu is not at No.18,Zhongguancun East Rd.
(4) Post code is wrong: it should be 100080.
(5) DNS is wrong too, baidu doesn't use ns1.dns.com.cn but use ns1.baidu.com. [check the baidu.com/baidu.cn/baidu.com.cn]

^^ Good research. If this is the case, I fully support you to convince baidu.com taking action on this. DNS.com.cn should also be notified of this employee. Two things I can hardly agree on this:
1. TM violation
2. Maluse of the advantage as a registrar employee.
