Great link, wonderful commercials, nice example of having a full web site on a screen about 2x3 and having to scroll, enlarge, pick, choose, enlarge, pick, pick, pick, nope, go back, enlarge, enlarge, oops, start over of a website.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/dot-mobi/335890-talk-to-me-about-the-iphone.html

That was a dot com. Oddly (and predictably) enough, the entire website did not fit the screen.

a.i.d.a.
Look it up.

Now go to Dir.mobi, boroughs.mobi, fux.mobi, en-route.mobi, bmw.mobi, weiwei.mobi.

Wasn't that easy?

One startup might use songs.com to sell mp3 songs on for cellphones and another company might use songs.mobi to also sell songs on for mobile phones. Sometimes people might be in the mood to use their phone to surf regular .com websites from their iphone and sometimes people might want to go to a mobi site. you dont think people can do both? you can see it already starting to form with companies like bank of america doing their entire mobile banking only from their .mobi site. .mobi sites can be indexed in mobile search engines just like .com sites for when people use yahoo one search or regular google or whatever. you have turned against .mobi because you were not smart enough to reg anything halfway decent that people would actually want to use on their phones and are mad nobody wants to buy your mobi names for even $5. your mobi names even in .com would be worthless. you have missed the boat on both the regular internet and the mobile internet. bad names are bad names no matter what the extension. the people who are developing their mobi sites into businesses could easily be successful whether mobi becomes mainstream or not.

Believe it or not, people have already asked about the name, they love it, don't understand the spelling, my wife explains it, they've never heard about it, but now they have and they are interested.

One is an IT professional, he and his wife are nationally certified therapy dog trainers, and he had never heard of mobi. As of Monday night with the class Class III obedience final session that he and his wife were instructing, now he has heard of .mobi, he is interested, and asked my wife if it would be okay to call me regarding domains in general and mobi (the domain).

He works at a major mega corporation. I guess just because you are into computers and set up networds does not mean you are into domains. Perhaps that was a poor assumption of my part.

People are used to going to current site urls, walmart.com for example, they will automatically try to goto the same url via their phone, walmart.com, its habit and habits are hard to break...

I just saw the iphone commercial on tv and they are kinda saying dont settle for anything less then the sites you are used to seeing and know via the internet.

i think mobi could do well if companies begin making sites suited for mobiles using the mobi address, like nokia could use .mobi and make tutorials on how to use your phone, etc, they just need to make it work with mobiles, i'm not a mobi fan, nor do i own a mobi domain but i wish you all well

I've invested alot of development time for the iPhone

My feeling is that the iPhone will be very good for .mobi. I know that they are pushing it for full size websites but users given the choice I believe will opt for smaller mobile versions of their popular websites.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=335890

Following a text link even with the screen blown up to full scale is going to be difficult for text links.

For the last 3 months I have been developing websites especially suited to the iPhone and other touch screen devices which I am sure will follow. The sites I have developed are...

www.iteams.mobi
www.iKidz.mobi
www.wapgroups.mobi
www.iDude.mobi

All of these share the same basic UI which I patterned after the demo screens for the iPhone.

We'll see what happens. I have my fingers crossed.

True - the Iphone is making the internet, as we know it, accessible to small screens, which is nice, I agree... and to some degree this runs counter to the raison d'etre du mobi. I may very well get an Iphone for myself, however...

could I justify spending the $$$ on one for my wife or kids, or how about that taxi driver in Mumbai? An Iphone may not be available with my carrier - will I change phone #s? I just upgraded, and so am already locked in with another carrier for another 2 years, etc.

even though I can view a regular site on my Iphone, once I get it, I will only if there is no mobile-formatted alternative. Sites that I need for business, work, etc. will be nice to have at least half-decent access to them on the go. But sites nicely formatted for my screen, with minimal clutter and bandwidth footprint, fast-loading, will make it to the top of my bookmarks list... and new habits will be borne.

People with limited bandwidth or download restrictions or slow connections will have even more reason to build new habits. 25 Mb goes pretty quick on the regular net, but when people discover that with .mobi sites you can surf them all day and still remain within the limit, and still get what you're after without having to pay extra for scrolling/zooming past all the junk graphics, etc.

Settle for less? Why are phones getting smaller, not bigger? The paradigm - Less is More! Same will go for content served to mobile users on the go - content formatting will evolve to load quickly and conveniently with use of access keys, etc. Walmart will follow suit as will others who want to keep or gain mobile market share.

BOFA.mobi - the butterfly effect has begun!

BOFA.mobi ... Polo.mobi, Amtrak.mobi, NBA.mobi, BMW.mobi, ... the tipping point will come, mTLD has yet to release thousands of premium generics and city/country/state .mobis ... who knows when, but keep in mind that Nokia pioneered the idea of .mobi years ago, so it's not just us .mobi fans here at NP that think .mobi makes sense!
