I'm still researching with no one sending me any to work on.

So far, it seems fine server-sided and client-sided in my country, so I need more data to work on.
Screenshots, traceroutes, etc.

After some information given by a customer, this problem has been resolved.

Whilst I understand that this incident is partially my fault (due to my ISP's dns cache), I hope that customers can be more understanding and provide information that I crucially need to debug in the future.

This issue stemmed from the problem that our DNS server happened to close its ports, yet remained running.
As such, it did not trigger our internal security systems.

MF-DOOM is an unknown quantity at this point

I provided jerometan with enough information for him to diagnose the issue. Whilst I (like everybody else where) isn't happy about the downtime it isn't hard for any client to take the initiative and run some self-tests and feedback to the hoster.

Some will say we shouldn't have too - and largely I agree - but when he states there is no problem his end (OK, internal DNS caching - I've had the before & he won't fall for it again either) you can either throw your toys or take the logical path to getting things resolved. It's just a pity I didn't notice this issue earlier and I could have saved everyone a little bit of angst.

I've been hosting with jerometan for quite a while now - probably are one of his larger customers at 10-12 sites - and his hosting has been great as has been his response to issues and support requests. Hopefully everyone has learned a little something out of this and in the future we won't see a repeat from either side

I said quote "the control panel is up but none of my sites are resolving", where would be the logical place to start looking for a problem...???

i said "from Australia and wherever dnsreport is hosted the nameservers are down, can ping the IP's but nameservers are not responding"
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=332727

i prob could have been a bit clearer and said i can ping nameserver IP's but the actual nameservers are not responding to requests BUT also jerometan could have asked me to clarify if he didnt understand what i meant

I hope people can understand that I have many mail to filter through daily.

Replies to this thread will largely go unmonitored - PMs are most reliable as I get a mail everytime a PM is received - along with the user who sent it.

Besides updates, this thread will no longer be monitored.

The only channel of communication should be via PMs, with this thread acting as an updates thread.
Should people spam this thread during downtime, people like dotcommakers will have no idea what is going on.

Thank you.

Please stop the sales bashing.
It is not tolerated in this forum, and is infractionable.

Although I can agree that sales bashing for domains such as laughing at a ridiculous asking price is a bad thing, I feel in this situation it is somewhat necessary. Without any of these comments a newcomer would see "Fast and reliable" and assume this was the case (when it is actually completely the opposite). Soviet regime anyone?

Although I mentioned I will not be checking, I'm replying since a moderator has.

As an update to the downtime concerns, we are currently negotiating cPanel with our provider.
As a stop-gap measure, the DNS server will be automatically restarted every 15 minutes.

As to whether the DNS server has a loophole/bug that crashes it, we are still investigating.
However, we will try to push for a cPanel change.

Thanks.
