If you mean landrush names at landrush prices you are correct, but I know there are good names to be bought in the aftermarket today if you are prepared to spend 4 figures.

Why the desperate attempt to put a damper on all this news, I wonder? His arguments are absolutely meaningless in the face of all this news.

I have mobis is for sale right now for $45 in the marketplace, with so much confidence in the extension you'd think I'd be able to sell one of them?

That said, I'm not bashing .mobi. Never did, I just think that alot of you are going to be disappointed because m.whatever.com or whatever.com/mobile or browsers like operamini or phones like the iphone, one of these is bound to turn this dream into a nightmare for alot of investors sitting on their reg's and havent sold them yet. One of the reasons I sold the majority of my mobis already. I had and have my doughts. This is why I bought and flipped asap and was able to make all my money back plus profit.

Yes I'm on the dock alright, just waiting to see if ship mobi sinks or not. I'm not bashing, just playing with ya's so dont take me seriously

HasRob,

I don't know where to start. First off, if you are just trying to dump your .mobi's now for a small profit, you are missing the big picture. This is not a "pump and dump" scheme, this is a real extension that is going to take time to build up. Of course you aren't going to get a lot of money right now, it's not about "right now", its about the future.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/dot-mobi/330819-godaddy-tdnam-mobi.html

Secondly, if you already sold most of your .mobi's and you're out of the game, why do you even bother to come to the forum? If you don't believe in it, why not just sell the rest for $45. I just might buy them from you, if they're any good.

Oh, and I don't take you seriously at all

This is where I have started to think differently as of late. As I said, I "think" .mobi has a chance of being outdone by technology.

If I buy an iphone or a treo and can view a dot com just fine, or buy a smaller screen cell that comes with say operamini also capable of viewing dot com's just fine, why do the companies whose sites I'm viewing care about .mobi for?

Exactly why I pumped and dumped asap. The future tells me to and the technology to prove .mobi worthless is here now. Again, just my observation and opinion on the matter.

Why am I still here? Because I'm certainly not positive or sure about anything.

Fair enough, but these arguments regarding the "usefullness" of .mobi are really a non issue when large companies start promoting and using them, which is happening now.

Sure, you can get mobile content on a .com, that's not the issue. This is more about branding and marketing than anything else. And also about having an extension with a GUARANTEE of mobile web compliance, so you don't have to guess whether a .com will work properly or not, and you also don't have to guess whether your .com is example.com/moble, or mobile.example.com or whatever.

.mobi makes it clear exactly what it is, and what it is for....AND it's much easier to remember.

The technology isn't far from making .mobi worthless. But rather than look at it that way, why not look at how .mobi can be of "greater worth".

.mobi can indicate that a company has a page which has been carefully designed with mobile users in mind. Whether that redirects to m.domain.com, domain.com/m, domain.com/mobile, mobile.domain.com, wap.domain.com, ... really doesn't matter -- what matters is that they use .mobi as part of their marketing efforts.

As far as able to render full blown websites, I encourage you to visit this link on your cell phone: http://www.reyyy.com

Tell me how long it takes to fully load, and how much it ends up costing you. I wouldn't want to chance that the site I'm about to visit is as poorly designed as this one for mobile users. By introducing .mobi, companies are telling their customers that their site is mobile friendly.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=330819

IMO, that will be .mobi's only selling point in the future. But a potentially great selling point it is

Ouch, big difference for those with a costly plan. To think you could load the .mobi version 10,000 times and still be under 1/2 the .com version in data transfer volume. Those numbers are a wake up call.

And when plans some places are around $5/MB, using 1/2 megabyte every time you visit the site really makes you think hard about how often you visit it

Funny thing, because the technology in America is just beginning to get to the point where it's ready to take advantage of what .MOBI has to offer. And I'm talking about cellphones that have decent browsing capabilities and data plans that don't cost a fortune, as has already been stated. So rather than leaving .MOBI behind, I believe the technology is just catching up -- and at the rate that the extension is being adopted by larger companies, it'll be a force to be reckoned with by the time America is ready to surf the Web on their cellphones in significant numbers.

You nailed it.

And since .mobi sites are starting from scratch TODAY in 2007 - ALL content can be formatted to be mobile-accessible. Tens of millions of dot-com/net/org/etc sites that include hundreds of millions of pages that are NOT mobile compliant and likely never will be made such do not have to clutter up and slow down the mobile viewing experience. Browser detection can act like a bandaid but as others posted, the sheer bloated code size of the existing web pages developed for the full PC-screen make many of them inaccessible to the small screen and mobile plans.

Again, very good news for the extension!
I just wondered, with the past releases of other extensions big sites with TM's
just redirects the adresses to their .com, there was no gain with the promotion of them just because the content/used technology was the same, the thing we see now, optimised mobile sites (less bytes for the slower and more expensive connections, usability especially for the mobile user etc.) and an extension that states clearfully "mobile ready" ... very nice! I like
And people who say that you just can visit the .com on your (more advanced, with higher resolutions or with sliders) pda/phone/ultra thin device, it's true, it's possible, but it's just not usable for the normal user who hasn't much computerknowledge. Great news we've read this week!

There is a GoDaddy.com and a TDNAM.com and they both do 2 different things. One is to register your names and has a few other services and TDNAM is to get expired names and names for sale and auction. People dont confuse the .coms so why would they confuse the .mobis? What would be confusing is if they combined both companies into just the one .mobi site while there are 2 separate ones on PC.

I just noticed when you go to TDNAM.com it mentions TDNAM.mobi site right on the top of the homepage in clear view for everyone to see. I hadnt noticed that before. Thats very good news.

HasRob, just because you cant sell your mobi names for $45 does not mean the extension is worthless, it probably just means those names that you own are (at least this early into mobi). I guess you figured you only regged terrible mobi names so you have basically missed the boat on good regs so you turned into a hater hoping that mobi fails so you wont be all mad that you missed a good opportunity.
