Remember to thank your tech folks I know of several who are working overtime to get our .TV sites launched. Most non-tech folks have this mis-perception that you can wave a wand and out comes a site. The reality is that most tech teams work long hours (into the night) focused on making the difficult look easy. Imagine writing War and Peace size novels and making sure every line is error free. And for anyone who thinks tech is a commodity. A little story. Two companies. Doing the same thing. Same features. One site had 30+ programmers in the Valley. The other site had 5 programmers in Northern Virginia. We know which team got the ax when the companies merged. 30 programmers making six figure salaries is not healthy for your burn rate. So thank your tech teams for the hard work they do in making .TV a reality. |
yes, respect your techies! The stages of my career in the tech field: tech support, web developer, webmaster, quality assurance specialist, network administrator, IT manager, project manager. I got sick of the business because it's truly a thankless job. On the network administration side: when you're responsible for the network, the shirts think the servers run magically by themselves. The second the network has any kind of hiccup, it's YOUR fault and must be fixed within an hour. Heaven forbid you recommend calling Microsoft tech support at $225 per incident. They'd rather have you troubleshoot the problem for a week (paying your weekly salary) and THEN call Microsoft who helps you fix the problem immediately. The shirts also think IT is a 9-5 job when in reality it's 24/7. From the development side: the time allocation to make a quality application requires 25% development and 75% QA. QA is critical and often skimped out on and when bugs arise (and they will), the coder is often busy working on another project trying to beat an unrealistic deadline and is not able to do a fix. I have seen this happen sooooooooooo many times it's ridiculous. Thank God I am in a position now that I am able choose with whom I work, doing projects for friends, family, & a few coworkers. |
I sure don't miss my days as an MCSE! :hehe: CCD |
LOL my personal choice of quotation today! I can relate to that but I still have it because of some consulting engagement. Cheers. I second this input. |
