In the Netherlands (DutchLand) on the WHT www.WebHostingTalk.nl forum I was in the WHT-Team for the fight against cancer. Most of the 4100 members at WHT are WebHosters and have one or more computer(s) we have a lot of members who are donating there processor time for the fight against cancer. This all is regulated by Grid.org.
What is Grid.org?
Grid.org is a single destination site for large-scale research projects powered by the United Devices grid computing solution, Grid MP Global. From the Cancer Research Project sponsored by Intel and the University of Oxford to the Anthrax Research Project sponsored by Intel and Microsoft, the Grid MP Global @ grid.org has been put to use for research and analysis projects of groundbreaking scope. With the participation of over 2 million devices worldwide, grid.org projects driven by the Grid MP Global have achieved record levels of speed and success in processing data. They booked results already!

On February 5, United Devices along with IBM and Accelrys launched the Smallpox Research Grid Project, a joint research effort to identify candidates for developing new drugs that, for the first time, would combat the smallpox virus post-infection. The first counter-bioterrorism project to be powered by United Devices was the Anthrax Research Project. Working with scientists from Oxford University, United Devices provided its Grid MP Global technology to screen billions of molecules for suitability as potential treatments for advanced-stage Anthrax.
A global effort to combat bioterrorism
The threat of bioterrorism affects people worldwide. From distant continents to the house next door we're all susceptible to the potential impact of a bioterrorist attack, where the enemy is an unseen biological agent with no known cure. That's why United Devices established the PatriotGrid: A family of research projects designed specifically to identify new leads for cures to diseases that are known to be potential weapons of bioterrorism.
The Threat
Terrorists select agents designed to infect humans with debilitating diseases such as anthrax and smallpox for which cures do not exist. Because many of these deadly agents are available on a growing scale, creating a defense by identifying new leads for cures is a global priority. Unfortunately, with conventional computational screening methods, drug leads take years to discover and develop into viable treatments. The proven technology behind the PatriotGrid By using the Grid MP Global @ grid.org, research groups can speed their lead-finding processes dramatically shaving years off the timeline for developing new treatments.
