anybody else feeling a bit antsy?

now, i know that come may 1st, the .tv world is not going to change over night- but its kinda like waiting for christmas morning- i have those butterflies in my tummy.....

DomainBuyerBroker 04-29-2007 08:49 PM

Like opening day for a business.

We have put in a lot of time and money and we will be opening the store soon.

We have a good "location" and we will benefit from a BIG advertising campaign.

space101 04-29-2007 08:54 PM

so anybody have any guesses on when they think .tv is going to get crazy?

my guess when you start hearing the average person talking about how cool this new ext. called .tv is.

smashfactory 04-29-2007 08:58 PM

man! I wanted athletes.tv! crud i was waiting on payments from others- groan ;-( great name there!

my daughter asked me a few weeks ago if she could watch acceptable.tv- all the kids watch it she said....

thats when i started.
my younger one asked if she could have aqua beads she saw on tv- i can order them at aquabeads.tv

i think with more tv exposure, it is a given

TheBulldog 04-29-2007 09:13 PM

Yep, I have them. Tried pepto, but that didn't help.

I asked some UK friends about it, and they were a little meh about them. One of them said something along the lines of "they have been around for a couple years, what's the big deal?". I explained about what is about to happen and they started searching themselves for good names.

I gave them no advice on good names, as my track record is spotty on a good day.

I am now narrowing trying very hard not to search for new ones and just get some dev done, but it is hard with the anticipation of what is coming. I foolishly am trying to find more to get some quick sales, but that is getting hard because I just don't have the bandwidth to search for good names, nor am I willing to shell out big bucks in the aftermarket without some idea of what is going to happen.

Sigh.

That's a real nice, real world, way to look at it.

Me? I've learned over the years not too get to excited, about anything I have no say over, that way I don't get my expectations up... and IF I'm Surprised! Then I get excited.

equity78 04-29-2007 10:14 PM

No not at all and I don't see any reason to get excited. This is not a release of a new extension, its not a landrush. I think Demand Media promoting the extension will help but for new people thinking May 1 means jackpot they will be disappointed IMO

Names have been available for close to 8 years, many great domains have been owned for a long time. I do not think we are going to see overnight $50,000 sales. I do not think .tv will be welcome at TRAFFIC with open arms as the biggest domainers (except ELEQUA) still could care less about .tv

On May 1st a reg fee domain will still be worth reg fee, this is not the "new hot thing" this is not a one of a kind technology break through. Demand Media will be a plus but they have their own agenda such as their IPO.

For new people if you do not have a plan, don't reg it, the type of .mobi hype and sales that followed quickly will not happen here imo and you will be only wasting money.

I would focus on certain areas and have a development plan and remember an end user can afford a premium even if you can't. Adding ing or 's to words where it does not make sense does not make it a cheap premium it makes the domain worthless.

I think some think if big sales do not happen after May 1st then .tv is a failure, I do not share that opinion. May 1st means Demand Media will release some tools and Premium Regs are available again, Nothing More nothing less. IMO

ABsolutely spot on.

The only thing that will help .TV increase in value is more and more developed sites.....it will increase the awareness by entering peoples lives and hopefully one of these .TV will end up becoming as huge a site like YOUTUBE, which is now a fixture of popular culture.....the odds of this happening increase with evry additional developed .TV website......

It will also decrease the available stock of names whichg will help the value aswell....

One problem though with this developed website will help incrase the value of .TV theory is that it is a double edged sword....because not only do these sites have to be developed, but if they do not provide interactive media content, it dilutes the brand to the point of being redundant.....so a majority of develeloped.TV sites at the very least need to be developed to a higher level than any other extention........a very tall order indeed.....

But, one can say that the ball get its first real BRANDING push on May 1st, whether that ball comes to a grinding halt, rolls around in a circle endlessly or beats everyones expectations and becomes an unstoppable express train will play out over the coming two/three years....you cannot expect the necessary volume of developed interactive media .TV sites that will be needed to make the difference in upwardly moving prices in any less time.........

Brilliantly said Equity! I couldn't agree with you more. I think there will be a 5 - 10% increase in traffic to my parked .tv's, but I don't see a huge increase in offers over the next 6-8 weeks.

Develop is key and if you can afford it, maybe one great keyword that you have a plan for would be cool to go after. Give you a nice gem to show off :)

grooves.tv 04-30-2007 12:16 AM

I think we have to be prepared to be in for the long haul and give it maybe 2-3 years before the extension filters into the psyche.

deb 04-30-2007 01:28 AM

richard will advertise, market and hype .TV prior to his ipo which can only be a good thing with regard to end user interest in .TV and therefore increased value in your .TV investment.

.TV will be a pretty cool no#2 to .com

:loveyou: richard :red:

meeks 04-30-2007 02:27 AM

The publicity can only help, and I'm interested to see the scope of the tools being rolled out. I personally don't think its going to mean an instant windfall though.

The future for the .TV tld is bright and the sooner we can develop our ".TV channels" the sooner the public in general will accept the extension.

A few years from now I envision .TV sites will be being watched in livingrooms worldwide on a daily basis.

I agree with you.
I just have a bad feeling about this for people who have no immediate plans for the premium .tv domains after they purchase it.

In my personal opinion, it can be like buying worthless penny stocks with many pumpers.
I just hope that people will not be holding very expensive bags in the end.

I'm sure there are very good names that can be sold for a good profit (with or without development).

It's very important to have an exit strategy as the reg and renewal fees are very expensive.

Wish you all the best of luck.

alex_d 04-30-2007 04:33 AM

For me, the tools that Demand Media release are what I am looking forward to the most. I have no plans to reg any Premium domains - I will continue to develop the non-premium that I already own.

I just hope that people aren't pinning their hopes on a flood of sales after May 1st - I seriously doubt that will happen straight away. The exposure will be great for all of us who have .tvs in their portfolios, but expecting an overnight boom in .tv in not likely. If someone has a .tv that a potential buyer is interested in, I am pretty sure that the buyer would have already contacted the seller - not waiting until May 1st to see what the hype is all about.

Good luck to everyone though - interesting times ahead.

Alex

Well, I am excited, antsy and I got butterflies, next stop, Walgreens - lol

SKG 04-30-2007 10:33 AM

I would feel antsy if on opening day there was a 70 percent off sale. Since there is not it is business as usual. Nothing will change except the release of DM tools which will not be end user type anyway. If one buys a premium name with the hopes to flip then I would ask that one to explore and see how many people (use NP as a source) have sold a .TV for over $500? Not many if you were to add the total number of purchases of .TV domains by NP members, see Antonis12 great thread.

It is however, a chance for an end user (or one who wishes to develop) to pick-up domains the he/she may need but was blocked by the freeze.
