| Good article, but you could add a couple of other things as well:
There have not been a (visible) pagerank update in several months, and rumors says that google may be moving towards quarterly updates.
So that means that the PR displayed in the google toolbar or other pagerank checkers is unreliable.
The internal/real pagerank (updated all the time) of a page/site, could be something completely different than the visible one.
So don't focus too much on the pagerank of the page linking to you, just make sure to get lots of links with good keyword anchor text, preferably from similar themed sites as yours. (may/may not be important)
You should also always use h1 and h2 tags, with your keyword(s) in them....
And a couple additions to #7:
do also submit to DMOZ, some of the link pages have good pagerank, but the most important thing is that a LOT of other directories uses the DMOZ data, and you can gain houndreds of backlinks from a couple of DMOZ listings (including from the google directory).
But it may take a LOT of time to get listed in DMOZ, and almost forever in Yahoo (if you do not pay, but that's not worth it) |
