Was desperately trying to find information on some things today for a paper... and couldn't take Google anymore. I decided to check out Yahoo and for some reason I found more information way quicker with the same search queries.

Maybe they're onto something? Eh...

Found this a bit hilarious though.

That's quite funny.

Let's hope it works - it's in all our interests that Google loses market share.

Current Google consipracies/predictions

1) Your site will rank better organically if you use adwords to promote it
2) Your site will rank better if you have Adsense on it
3) Google will start to charge for video (via youtube) next year
4) Google will at some point deliberately make search results less relevant to encourage cllicking on paid adwords
5) Google use Quality Score arbitrarily to drive up CPC bids
6) Google expanded broad matching which supposedly aimed to increase advertiser reach actually results in irrelevant ads showing which both increases the competition (and therefore the revenue) for that particular search and damages the QS of the advertiser forcing him/her to bid more in future

Anyway... most of that is probably crap but if they wanted to they clearly could!

If I was the owner of Yahoo there is no way I would let a link go to Google. Same thing the other way around.

i got it too as well.
on yahoo.com i can see this right on top of the search box itself (2nd one)
You could go to Google. Or you could stay here and get straight to your answers.

then on ph.yahoo.com
there's nothing like that, seems they're only marketing to yahoo U.S. searches
but on both ph.yahoo.com and yahoo.com
i can see this ad
*
Yahoo! Sponsored Search
Reach more clients geographically at country level. Free US$30 credit.
searchmarketing.yahoo.com

i like it the way it is, it's called co-opetition

Don't get your reasoning to be honest, aren't search engines meant to find information? Glad you are not the owner of Yahoo :)

I'm still amazed how many people don't know the difference between a search engine and a URL address bar...

Wordtracker for "google.com" is insane

You just reminded me about some people that search Google.com on Google.com... just to get to the search page. Oldie relatives of mine that have just discovered "the internet". Still give them credit for trying, though. I've tried over and over to teach them what an address bar is, but... "if it aint broke, don't fix it--it gets me to where i want"

:D.

Or you could look at it this way....

It Amazes me people search for something they already know!

Now if you asked somebody what a Search Engine was, or an Address Bar, most wouldn't know.. LOL

but somebody can type in http://www.yahoo.com and search type google.com LMFAO

I've always thought Yahoo was a better search engine than Google.

It just seems that Google has great ability with self-promotion and Yahoo is a stick in the mud. Yahoo literally does no promotion that I am aware of. If they would just stand up and compete for surfers they would do better.

Surfers have literally forgotten Yahoo exists for searches....except for Yahoo News and some things like that.

To be honest with you, what reminded me to get onto Yahoo was a little "Holiday Shopping" radio commercial about finding digital cameras I heard for Yahoo a couple days ago. I thought it was a pretty good idea for them to be advertising their search engine... and it obviously worked! Who woulda thought? ;)

Most computers now-a-days come with pre-set homepages with "search engine" type pages (Google partner pages, mostly). Anyone unfamiliar with computers/the internet loads up Internet Explorer and gets to these pre-set homepages... and since it doesn't look like the familiar "Google.com", they search it to get to it.

I've seen it done plenty of times. Not exactly sure why some people can't see the darned address bar with the URL in it, but I've learned to not care as much. Took me a while to get my dad to work his way around the net "properly".

My reasoning is this, if your on Yahoo I would not want you to leave the site and go to my competition. My goal is to keep you on my site.

The same things happens if you search for "MSN". :hi:

more likely yahoo is confident enough about their search services to refer competition. I too refer to competition, but i only refer if like for example i know my competition well, and i know it sucks on this specific area then if the client wants that i refer it to the client, pointing out that area.

yeah a healthy relationship between competition.

yeah some to avoid hitting below the belt as they say just do what Chef Patrick does confine the customers within the limits of your services, if you don't want to lose them.

it's a matter of knowing your customer base and your competition on the part of yahoo, for example, most people here still use yahoo.com as their web-based email and telling them about google makes their faces sad and they don't know it, though if you're an online business owner, you need both search engines.
