How much to charge for ads

...After a year & 1/2 of work... success!

Well, after launching a website in January, 2006, and a LOT of SEO work in the past week, I have just received not 1, but 2 people asking what my "advertising prices" are on it. This is honestly not something I have given a lot of thought to, but I guess I do now, and get a response sent! These people contacted me as a direct result of my first ever newsletter that I sent out earlier today. It went to over 300 email addresses.

My website has highly targeted users, which means I might be able to get away with charging a little more than a generic website with not so much of a target. My website gets hundreds of visitors each month (around 200-300 in the summer months and around 300-400 during the fall/winter months. I think that number is going to go up a lot more this year though because of the website age, and because of all of the SEO work I have done recently).

So I'm wondering if anyone has ideas for standard, fair prices. Since these guys contacted me, they are obviously interested. I don't want to charge too low. But I also don't want to charge too high and scare them off, seeing that I have never sold any advertisements on this website before.

Suggestions or comments?

My feeling is somewhere around $5 or $10 per month for a homepage vertical banner ad, at least to start out with. I can always raise the prices later. What are your thoughts?
