| true... the major mortgage companies (fannie mae and freddie mac) are backed by the u.s. government so their drop in shares etc is really hitting the average joe much more. i don't think fannie mae and freddie mac will ever "die" despite how hard they're being hit for the mess they've caused themselves.
time for some more regulation for gse's!
