Kristi, know where you are coming from, been there. Been times in my life when 4 maybe 5 creditors called for me, multiple times a day. I hated the phone because no one called me unless they wanted money.

It's tough to work through, starting from nothing, but it can be done.

My answer was affiliate marketing. Not generic shopping malls filled with thousands of pages of links, but small, focussed niche sites.

All my work is done with a basic web site design package, and my sites are not fancy in the least. If you looked at my sites, your first impression would be, hey, there's just nothing to that. But, my goal is not really to impress the surfer with looks: my goal is to get found by surfers then move them onto a merchant asap, get that cookie set.

It is possible to start a merchant site with just a small amount of money, and heck, if you can't afford the inventory, work with dropshippers like shopster.com - there's several of them around. A merchant site provides you with greater margins, but greater responsibility, as well. Still, there's nothing like getting up in the morning and finding a huge order waiting to be filled - my largest surprise order was a few years ago, $25,000 worth of stuff.

If you want to kick ideas around, feel free to contact me at tarpguy at bluemarble dot net.

I'm not rich, but I get by, and I am still focussed on my long term goal of, "Wealth Beyond Avarice." I've been in the affiliate marketing industry for 7-8 years, if there's anything I can do to help, I'll certainly try.
