i just saw a site that backed a point i was trying to make in this thread:

http://www.namepros.com/2711165-post6.html

people are trying to gauge .tv based on sales. some are basing it on when more domainers buy .tv, then we are really successful now.

ands that just plain not true as a whole. my proir point was, there is a process that must cycle through first. this process is happening now, but by no means is close to done yet.

while you will see sales of good solid names, there is still a plethora of names to be had, variations to be hand regged, based on a buyers needs.

i just saw chic.tv- sweet site- used a FAB names for it. now look at the bottom-

GOING LIVE SOON! CHIC.TV'S NETWORK AFFILIATES
autos24.tv, wine.24.tv, dancing24.tv etc...

now, had someone asked for an appraisal in here on dancing24.tv, ya'll would have said reg fee- and rightfully so based on the name itself.

but chic.tv did NOT go about buying dance.tv, cooking.tv, autos.tv, ect...

people WANT to use .tv. and this is a good thing. it will take time tho till there is really just dung left to push mass sales. there will be sales, so i am not saying prepare for drought- not at all. just that this is something to keep in mind.

development is gaining momentum, but there is a world of topics and niches not even covered yet.

Smash,
Its not your fault.
I have been following the .tv sections of this forum,
since I joined.
There has always been a kindof "ready to give up" attitude.
Just a little discouraging, but understandable if these .tv-ers
have had a long road w/very little results.

But on the other hand, I would say YOU are a huge reason
why I have started to really embrace the .tv extension.
You have alot of enthusiasm!
It makes me excited, too!
I'm sure they will be back after their break.

We just need to do as you've said,
in multiple threads...Keep Pushing!

everyone needs a break sometimes :)

its important to put things in perspective.

you know how you hear people say- if a name was that good, people would be coming to you for it. end-users search out names. blah blah blah.

well, look- if these people were right, then they would never post any of their own names for sale. and they do. only a small handful of people NEVER post or sell their names. those people have the part of the crop that we worship :)

but for the other 95% of us, yeah man, we have to SELL our names. i roll over when someone says, if your names were any good, people would be coming to you, then they post names for sale, on a reseller forum. whats the matter- didnt any users come banging down thier doors?

buyers are simply consumers who are in the "market" for something. i dont believe the majority of them say, we want Cooking.tv. i believe the majority say, we are going to do a cooking video site- here are some possible names, lets explore our options.

how many times do you walk into a store JUST for milk- and you leave with chips, dip and frozen tacos?

while frank and few others may have the very names people actually seek out, the rest of us have to seek out buyers. let them know what is out on the market because many just dont know. i have dealt with people who were on one line of thought, then fell in love with another name of mine. never came for that name, but left with that name.

i dont mind that the domainers here are not buying .tv- in fact, i am kinda glad. when you have much larger fish holding .tv, THAT makes me happy. .tv is NOT a domainer trend, and that is what you see alot of on these boards. it is an internet trend- and that by far means more to me.

now, i put on extra deoderant in case ya'll want to come back anytime sooner

Dottie you didn't chase any members away. 99 percent of the .tv members enjoy your work and your hard work. Whenever you do a post, or you suggest things I listen.

Greg I am sorry to hear you take some time off and from .tv. Your well liked and been a great .tv member. Come back here! If you need a short break cool. Sorry for PM and my small joke this morning!

Sure we can always discuss demand media and enom and some of the prices are out of wack.

We have had our run inns in .tv threads at times. I love .tv and only see bright things ahead! With anything there are risk factors and we know what those factors are.

Good luck everyone. I am on the sidelines with this thread after this.

Cheers everyone

J

Have sold 6 .TV domains in the past month. All standard reg fees.
3 for just over $1,000 each. Another 3 for high $xxx. I was around in the late 90's with some good .coms and never enjoyed those kind of sales in a month with .com's then.

The major impediment to .tv imho is the premium pricing system which causes so much uncertainty. The future could be very bright for .tv but I can go with those who say it might not be just because of the premium pricing system...

Largest sale to date that I've had was a .TV, private sale. Actually, 2 of my 3 largest sales have been .TV, and no doubt in my mind the amounts will keep increasing over time.

i guess we all have a different view ....... me i see a 'internet tv show' called dateshow , WHO WILL YOU VOTE FOR ???? if you think things like this are not viable your nuts i think !!! , the internet = 20 years old and we are already talking about .tv , i think it's great and can only see growth ..... yes growth and if not today then tomorrow , ............ hey folks these are the early days , it seems so many here are just inpatient , yep it may take time for your investment to mature .....oh no who would have guessed !!!! eq78 has said it before ........develope , it's an option if you cant wait for your investment , other than that wait , because it is coming

Very well said! I, too, do not think of .tv as a domainer trend, but an internet trend, which is growing every day. More will see .tv as an alternative to the .com, or a nice addition if they already have the .com tld. Granted the future of what verisign will ultimately do to the ext. is uncertain, if it becomes widely embraced, there will be a certain amount of security in that.

Excellent thread smashfactory. I think there are to many impatient people out there!

i think, if people step back- they can see .tv coming to fruition. in 2006, we knew we were on to something, but we needed the world to take notice. and now, they are. slowly but surely.
we still need a solid time for more dev and growth on the web- if you watch .tv trends- it is taking a sure and steady path upwards. not spike up, spike down- slow and steady growth.
but, there is still time to be had. its like presenting any new product to a market. take a new cola.
you can do an ad blitz, have a spike in sales, but if it doesnt hold its weight, it fizzles out.
but, if it is a good cola, it hits the market, slowly word of mouth gets around, and you begin to build a base of loyal buyers.
over time, sales grow, and the next thing you know it becomes a hot item, and all the stores want to sell it. :)
domains are no different than real life- people > product.
sometimes we just think that it should cause some landslide in sales right off the bat because "we" love the cola :)
but, there is a whole world out there- LOTS of people to get to. its a big earth- takes time!

Brilliant explanation as always, Smash ! :)

And why is that ? Precisely because .tv is a developers extension rather than purely a speculators extension.

Developing great videocentric .tv websites does take a long time, much more than speculating and creating some hype around something worthless. But instead of tons of parked pages like many other extensions, there is actually a lot of brilliant developed websites on .tv domains, websites that are used on a daily basis by an increasing amount of average Internet users. That can only be good for the long-term value of .tv domains.

By the way, cola.tv is still available if you're interested. ;)
