| I would have to say no on the sticky thread.
The problem in my opinion isn't all on quality. I would actually say that 50-75% of names in there have quality in one form or another. The problem in my opinion is price. People in this section are NOT willing to pay much more then 10-50 for any name in general.
There have been some fantastic "keywords" that basically are ignored if they are over 100-200. No, I am not talking about mine, I don't see them as high as others here.
It is market timing. In watching, there has been a flood of sales threads in the last month or so, coinciding with 2007 new landrush registrations. Hmm, go figure.
So in time with that, we have suddenly, in the last month or so, been debating the quality of names in the marketplace. Well no wonder, people are dumping the junk that looked good last year, but come renewal time, is iffy to renew.
So they toss it in the sales forum hoping to make a quick hundred or so. That doesn't work, so prices start falling. It may not be a bad name, but to the rest, it is a name worth about reg-fee or so. And even then it may not sell because psychologically, people are already paying tons of money to renew other things, so they look at a name about to expire, and the seller wants 100 for it. Well 100 is 5 renewals (or 4 depending on registrar) plus another renewal.
So let's break that down.
Buy 1(one) $100 name in the marketplace.
+ Renew it=$25.
Have now spent $125.
Instead I can renew 5 other domains for that price.
Conclusion: Names are not selling because people have other domains to renew. The marketplace is going to look pretty bad the next few weeks to a month because people are dumping their losers in mass. After the drops, it will go back up to 50-75%. It will NEVER achieve 100%. |
