Mike, I know you have a .mobi portfolio so I am going to act as if you are asking from a perspective of someone looking out for his investment. No, I don't think .mobi is a thing of the past.

Sites designed for mobile are not just compact .com sites that are autodetected by a smartphone. If you want to see what I mean, there is a mobile web browser available that takes .com sites and rips the tables apart to make them viewable on a phone. You can try it - get out your phone or the phone emulator at http://ready.mobi (which also shows whether a site is expected to load properly on a phone) and then type in http://mURL.mobi. Once you have mURL.mobi open, type in any .com website. Do those results look good to you?

Next, take a few moments to see the difference between http://weather.com and http://weather.mobi, or http://espn.com and http://espn.mobi.

There is a difference, and the difference is that .com sites are great for information that you need to see on your computer, big graphics, massive games, lots of text, things you want to see on a big screen. The rest of the time, a .mobi is great for on the go information. If you are sincere and have other questions please feel free to pm me.
