| A lot going on in this thread amidst the squabbling.
First off many people are not hedged, you need to own the tv.com of the actual quality .tv you own to protect it or "hedge it" Wet.tv wettv.com for example. Peachtv.com and Cooltv.net do not hedge Wet.tv and Everything.tv.
It all depends what you are interested in ? If you came to .tv for keywords that you could not get in other extensions then I see those people not having interest in tv.com. If you are interested in TV,video, entertainment then I think you probably have interest in anything tv related because the play is on the tie between the net and tv. If you own MerchantAccounts.tv you probably got that because it is a high paying keyword and taken in many extensions. You are not interested in the net/tv angle you just want the weight of the keyword.
Personally I am interested in TV whether it is .tv/tv.com/tv.net/tv.org/tv.cctld. So I am not regging to hedge my great premium .tv because the tv.com was regged in most cases in the 90's or early 2000. A name that I would want to develop that I made up I would reg the tv.com as a defensive reg because I believe if the site has any success even any mention some domainer will try to reg it to poach off my site.
The other thing I like about anything tv related .whatever is if they get some traffic you can forward what on its own may be minor traffic to a developed site and use them to pump the traffic to your developed site. Kind of like building an audience if you have a worthwhile site.
The thing about Video is it can transcend language. If we have domains that get traffic that are parked and say you are in North America and it is Chinese traffic you may have a tough time monetizing it. But a pretty girl is a pretty girl in any language. For the most part a funny blooper is a funny blooper in any language. So if the goal is to build traffic or an "audience" these domains can be a cheap way to build some traffic.
Matthep did a screen of LLtv.org that were left a couple weeks back and I regged one and I think Sanchay regged 2. So NHtv.org gets 3 uniques a day nothing special but it is still traffic, so I go back and put the list in to see if the other LLtv.org were regged. They were not so I regged the rest. Number 1 increasing the value of LLtv.org since there are none available and secondly they each get some traffic. So if combined they get 500 uniques a month that is traffic to forward to a developed site. I do not know exactly what they are looking for but I know its tv or entertainment related.
Now whether .tv is gaining scale or not is far from the most important thing IMO. I believe for those looking to make sales and could care less about the .tv universe that BULLDOG is right in his post that domainer to domainer sales have been nothing special. And even outside of here when a LL.tv like PI sells for only $2700 with just a $500 renewal when most are $10,000 that is not a great sign for the sales cycle. Again not the extension but the sales cycle for those who only care about sales that is where their focus is.
More sites being developed is great but does not guarantee success for those not developing because GUESS WHAT? .com has attained critical mass and there are many domainers not making a penny and have lost money regging .com domains. Maybe the domains were not good, maybe over extended, maybe no plan for the domain. So just because sites being developed guarantees you nothing. And because people own incredible domains does not mean they are doing incredible things. Jimbo makes a good point that it is about the work you put in and not whether it is .tv or tv.com.
We touched upon in the tv.com thread there are some interesting regs so I agree Len to reg it with no plan is foolish IMO same for a not so great .tv. Again IMO |
