Been widely discussed elsewhere and Jeremy already knows my take on .MOBI. As a mobile specific platform it isnt needed. As a new gTLD with a registry that is working closely with domainers, strongly encouraging development, releasing premium keywords to those who submit their development intentions and providing a fast loading consistent clean interface across all sites, .MOBI is gold. The whole mobi thing doesn't work for me, .BIZ could have done this, .INFO could have done this, even .CC or .WS could have done this, but they didn't, .MOBI did.

I'm not going to dare suggest it overtakes the holy grail of .COM, I don't have the time to defend myself from all the followups. But as an internet user, how many times do I have to repeat this process:

- Type in 'stocks.com' and see a PPC landing page. Type in 'stocks.mobi' and see a content rich and relevant site.
- Type in 'pizza.com' and see a PPC landing page. Type in 'pizza.mobi', hit my GPS button and get a list of pizza joints near to me.
- Type in 'gymns.com' and see a PPC landing page. Type in 'gymns.mobi' and get a list of gymns in my area.

How many times do I go through this experience before one day it occurs to me to type in the .MOBI first, the habit is broken, and I never look back? Some people will never do this. Maybe only 10% ever will, and maybe it will take 10 years even for them, but to me, that makes .MOBI still a success.

So what does the .MOBI registry need to do for this to happen? Two things:

1. Make sure the content is there on premium keywords ... CHECK
2. Generate enough awareness of .MOBI that it gets to the point of being the second choice before it has a chance of being the first choice .... TBD, but they seem pretty damn good at marketing it so far.

Time will tell ... in the meantime I will periodically convince myself someone gives a damn what I think and post accordingly.

Basically, if you do the math Military.mobi is close to Flowers.mobi in terms of total payoff (OVT+EVT * PPClick).
