Hi guys,

Like anyone of you, I am always searching for new trends. For the last 18 months I went really deep into the LLLL. I placed my bets, and now only have to wait for all them 4 letters to be :sold:

So I was thinking. What would be a nice new niche for me to get into? My answer after some thinking and testing is actually quite simple. I decided to invest in quality LLLLL coms. I know I know, it is not actually a new trend and not really a niche. But I tell you, these 5 letter domains can become big business in some time :imho:

Why? Because quality 5 letter domains are extremely brandable. Lots of startups there looking for a brandable short name, especially the web 2.0 based ones. Quality 5 letter domains generate also natural type in traffic as I experienced myself. And ofcourse, it is dotcom based, the only safe bet you can make I believe.

I also believe that not all 5 letter dotcoms will be sold shortly, maybe they will never be. You really need to have quality names. But that is also a question I have for you. What is a quality name in this niche?

So maybe we can make this thread a bit sticky and share thoughts and experiences in developing this part of the domain market.

Oh yeah, just to share this with you. I recently acquired sygar, lyned, jebia, sebod, pifab, pobit, samau and penep.

Nitna.com - thoughts?
I think is ok, but could have some more 'wow' factor

wow factor is in the eye of the beholder. I have had domains I thought were good not sell and ones I had that were just ok sell.

The best one I own though is still Eveyo.com or Romdo.com.

What do you think about:

ocuro.com

tonir.com

tugap.com

unlis.com

Thanks.
Hello Tapanti,

Now lets break this down

Vifus.com is ok and a typo for virus

Ocuro.com is ok, lacking in the 'wow' factor department though, as far as I am concerned 'look at me I am special wow factor is all that matters with 5 letter domain names, don't try and convince yourself a 5 letter domain name has wow factor when it does not

Tonir.com Tonir seems to be a family name, but unless you get one of the Tonir family to buy it, I think the the 'ir' ending on Tonir makes it a bad choice and would have been best left unregistered

Tugap.com is ok and better than some 'pronounceable 5 letter.com domain names' but unfortunately is again missing the all important 'wow' factor

Unlis.com almost has something special going for it, but not quite, sorry, Unlis doesn't make the grade

Sorry If I have been a bit more blunt than usual, but after having so many hundreds of 5 letter domain sales under my belt I have lost count, please learn from someone who has been through it

Hi Jason

Romdo.com is very nice, good going

It may be in the eye of the beholder to an exstent, but some 5 letter domain names look obviously smoother or hotter than the others to most people

I know you have nothing to worry about Jason being a seasoned 5 letter.com seller, but there are others who have not the experience of you or I and some of the reg's they make, make me cringe, they see money, I see good luck selling the name for a max of $3.14 on ebay, I think I should at least warn people all pronounceables are not gold but some are if you keep an eye out for the special ones

You may be good at forum flips Jason, thats your talent, but are the other people that are getting into 5 letter.com's (do they psoses that same talent) or are they flushing money down the toilet, I have flushed money down the toilet before, lots of it (not fun). I hope unseasoned 5 letter traders can learn from my mistakes and seriously being super picky is best, looking for wow factor, for instance most people will agree a name like mozzo.com has 'wow factor', this is more than just in the eye of the beholder, the general domainer population would agree

Yeah I agree, I see a lot of 5L.com's that I wouldn't even consider because you are right about me being a forum flipper. I don't have the time to focus on end users, easier to post here and have people message me versus emailing who knows who.

You have a talent for spotting good brandables, people should listen to you. :)

What about 1 letter and 4 letters real-word such as "xchop" "gmore", etc?
Do you think they worth something as a 5L?
(e{words}, u{words}, and i{words} are excluded)

Hi Anthony, this is one of those names, that is worth registering, because it is a good gamble, If you put it right now on ebay, it could sell from anywhere from $6 to $140, solid generics with a Letter U before them are worth registering in my opinion, as if you have a few of them, the gamble will most definately put the odds in your favor of making a profit so almost impossible to lose. How this name would fair at attracting an enduser all I can say is maybe (by the way, I don't think Bush being the name of the president is going to raise the price of this domain as much as one would think, I think that factor would be minimal)

Hi Kurniawan,

gmore no sorry, I doubt it (Were you hoping 'G' for google would add value? It may add a touch, but not enough to go chasing I believe)

Xchop.com yes, I think it has immediate value, 5 letter 'X' domain names are usually popular from my experience in selling (so long as the 'X' is followed by either a strong word 'chop is strong enough' or the 'X' makes up a made up word like Xelda.com, Xelda.com would be worth good money, but then again Xelda is a nice example)

Regards from Josh

I don't have those two. Just wondering.
It seems not all letters are good to be matched with a single word.
I will search more names.

Thanks, Josh.

Indeed

An extra note to potential 5 letter investors, although 5 letter.com's have a proven track record of enduser sales over the last 3 years, I like 5 letter domain names that have instant cash in now potential!

To keep your 5 letter portfolio in ideal healthy shape, I recommend only names that have 'wow factor' in them! What letters are used in the name does not matter, stand out 'wow' factor is all that matters : )

Don't worry Kimmy, my for letter posts were tongue in cheek, I am a fan of both 4 and 5 letter domain names

Nifdy sounds like a play on nifty, would be ok for a personal blog, but I think finding an end user for both Nifdy and Safdy.com would be on the hard side. Not that I search for end users myself, sometimes I get them come to me but most of the time my domains go on ebay

Take care from Josh

How is this one:

owowa.com

It has a WOW factor for sure.

I also have guget.com and narmy.com.........which, surprisingly, both get visitors regularly.

Also, I see that Taall.com sold yesterday for 45$ on eBay (not sure if someone posted that already or not...too much too read)

Hi The Hot Ship,

owowa.com Yeah thats cool, good to have the wow factor in there 'literally in the case of owowa! Has lots of life when you say it out loud!

Narmy.com I like this one a lot, very nice, smooth letter combination and catchy (although letter combinations don't always need to be smooth, the word just has to have the 'wow factor', example: flyte.com does not have smooth letter combination, but it has the 'wow factor' which is what matters)

guget.com makes me think of gadget, which is a good thing, surprising too, since it has neither the 'a' nor the 'd' from gadget in it

Take care from Josh

Thank you Josh for providing your comment on UBush.com. The letters are also all premium, right?

Hi Anthony,

Premium letters, a, e, i, o, t, l, m, n, p, s and the rest that are relevant in 4 letter domain names, are pretty much irrelevant in 5 letter domain names, if a 5 letter word looks cool and has 'wow factor and personality' thats all that matters

Example: pamef.com (in the 4 letter.com world these are all premium letters) IMO In the 5 letter world pamef.com is a horrible 5 letter.com, without any wow factor or personality and you would have to pay me $10 just to register it, for my effort. I would let pamef.com expire and drop, thats how much I dislike it (pamef.com is available at the time of writing, please don't reg it people, head for quality 5 letter.com's)

On the other hand cynax.com (has 'y' and and 'x' considered of the lowly variety of alphabetical letters in the 4 letter.com world) The reality is cynax.com sounds like some multi billion dollar company from a movie like Terminator or some other futuristic movie, Cynax Corp, sounds a billion dollars, I will class Cynax.com as a premium 5 letter domain name! If it didn't go to a company, imagine how serious cynax would make your blog sound
