| I will agree at one time they had about the best interface in the business until it broke trying to make it do both ICANN reg names and reseller enom names at the same time. There is some value in the software interface if it were brought up to date and had a makeover to look different than RF.
However, using anything to do with the name registerfly or anything close to it is just plain stupid. No amount of promotion can overcome the bad PR and links that will be searchable for years to come. There are certain names like enron, hitler, registerfly, etc. that have such bad associations you can't overcome. In this industry Regfly is one of them. Not a very smart marketer in my opinion.
I have seen some registration sites have their name at another registrar. In the case of regfly, it's probably because they are not ICANN accredited and have no choice. For others it's a safety/redundancy issue so that if someone hacks their servers they don't take down their site and their name. If registered elsewhere, they can get a backup site up quickly while fix their servers with the domain still active. In a similar way, if you have email from the same domain you own and the domain goes off, you won't get email to notify you. A good reason to never use an email address in the whois of the same domain name. If it expires, you won't get email notifying you.
