This gives me much more legal recourse and peace of mind. Canadians are huge online shoppers - to do away with the restrictions would completely dilute the trust Canadians have in dot ca.

I would never in a million years want the namespace opened up. It would only benefit domain name resellers and nobody else. It would harm all those doing business on a .ca and that monetary value dwarfs the reseller market by a very large margin. In 2005 Canadians spent nearly $8 billion online - that number is growing by 30%+ every year.

it hasn't done .co.uk and .de any harm

the two most popular cctlds and dare i say prosperous online societies in europe.
consumers in uk and germany are incredibly web savvy and have high expectations.

i understand what you kind of mean. but if a scammer wants to scam, by their nature thay can easy reg a a .ca, and give a false address, plus i doubt the public are aware that only .ca can be regged by canadians

i'm surprised you really think you dont want it opened up as it would help values of .ca's
after all canada has a very small population
