Yes they can stream videos but the bandwidth required would be fairly expensive to surf for this, best way is to download the videos you want with dsl and then convert them to the media required then transfer them to the phone via your usb cable. |
According to the switch on developers guide, if you are not in compliance with the three mandatory rules (valid code/format, no frames and able to resolve without www), you will be given 2 notices over a 2 month period by your registrar. Then the registry may try to contact you directly. If that fails, the name goes into a hold and will not resolve. You then must make a compliant site to resolve again. The name is not deleted, it is just held until there is compliance. They basically give you two months to get it right (once notice is given) and even after that, you can still make a compliant site and get back up. I have heard they will be launching their own versions of tools and more development articles soon - hopefully this will be more helpful for all of us. |
not here |
I think you can use frames! Before in the document one of the rules was no frames. But now, in the mtld.mobi document it says the following: 4.1.3 Use of Frames [dotMobi] Do not use frames (standard or inline) unless the target client is known to support them http://pc.mtld.mobi/documents/dotmo...per_Guide3.html Notice the words "in case the target client is known to support them" All the latest PDAs and windows mobile (from my treo 700W) are known to show frames now, so the "target client supports them" in this case and my subsequent interpretation now is its ok to use frames. It is just that the current windows mobile does not support the Iframe tag (and Java yet, but thats another issue soon to be resolved i guess ) Regards, |
What about video games, and movies that are served up from your site? How does their file format effect the site being 'valid' .Mobi? How do they effect Xhtml? I remember having difficulty getting html pages to pass code compliant because of 'flash' game files (etc.) and assume this is going to be just as difficult. I've never worked with Xhtml though. |
Flash is supported by a few Verizon phones see (http://www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/pre...506Verizon.html) Other than that, flash has yet to be put in phones (in the mainstream, most don't have flash enabled phones.) The fileformat as far as I have tested does not greatly affect phone usage (a .php will process just like any other would) I find that XHTML is more compatiable with Mobiles because of the development that phones are XML/WAP so XML HTML works best. If you are not developing in HTML. - Steve |
I fixed it so that the page shows now, but the htmlgear.com code is not working... |
There really needs to be a standard that any mWare can run on any phone, but it may be a long way off. How far are we from being able to develop mware downloads for users? Say someone created a game, could you even sell it? Paypal for phones? I think the mobile companies will have a lot to say how this stuff pans out. |
Paypal for phones will come with popularity. As for the games, yes.. Games for cell phones is already a $100 Million dollar business. EA Games has brought in over $100 Million on there Mobile Video Games. - Steve |
I emailed mobi about this development stuff and heard back from them - they will be launching a suite of development related tools on Monday, November 6th at dev.mobi. |
MOBI Emulator Question In working with the MOBI emulator, it appears that none of the popular email programs work properly. Gmail, Hotmail, and Yahoo mail. Gmail won't even successfully log you in. Hotmail and Yahoo Mail will let you view your inbox. But when composing an email, you can enter an email address and subject, but are not allowed to enter text in the body of the message (most important). Has anyone else noticed this? If you'd like to try them out ... Emulator Gmail Emulator Hotmail ... Choose Mail and then "next" to log into Hotmail Emulator Yahoo Mail ... Choose Mail and log in If anyone tries this, I would appreciate your input. I don't know if these problems are confined to the Emulator only or can be duplicated on others' cell phones. |
I have made a VERY simple .mobi template for any of you to use: http://www.kerrij.com/mobitemplate.html Use "View Source" in your browser to see the html, open in Notepad, save as index.html in your chosen file folder, right click and save the logo.jpg if you want to use it also. Cheers! :) |
I tried logging into something through an emulator and phone before and it didnt work. Might just not be mobile friendly somehow. Careful with entering information through an emulator or even phone as it may not be secure. |
Looking for Mobi version of Web Mail Hi, I am actively looking for a mobi version of web mail package. Any recommendation is welcome. If I cannot find one, I may have to contract someone to develop it for me. Thanks HF |
I would ask about that on this site --- > dev.mobi They are opening on Monday. They have a development forum there. |
thanks, I just used those on my 2 .mobis (1 I reged this morning), Muf and Molt. I could give you a code to make it easier to copy for the users here... hold on, I will go find it... http://www.code.muf.mobi |
Excellent! Thanks for the easier copy and paste. Glad someone could put it to use. :) |
Note, people can also edit it on that window before pasteing it into their notepad. |
I signed up with www.admob.com and have sorted out some adverts for mobile sites now, its a pretty good system and easy to use. There is a lot of interest from companies who bid on adverts, that go on your mobile site, and I was fairly impressed :) The thing that was initially throwing me was changing the extension of the files to .php instead of .html (or .xhtml) so I could place their code within the pages, but it works perfectly. |
Thanks man, nice to see there is an option to monetize .mobi sites! |
Most welcome Damion, it was just a matter of time, and I am sure this is just the start :) |
I put them on my sites, but I then checked it on their own checker, and their own site did not work, but my site did, but when I checked it in the checker at mltd, it worked. http://o2-external.waprunner.wap3.n...i&runmode=popup click on "great mobile sites" |
Godaddy uses Website Tonight free with your .mobi domain purchase. I found it limited in use and too much whitespace between header and footer. I contacted support and they said there is nothing they could do about that. It is however really easy to use and good for those who don't want to spend a lot of time figuring out how to develope on their own. |
Hmmm... are you trying to brand mware? Nice one, hope you can and that you do well with mware.mobi! |
Does anyone know how to add a message board, chat or a tagboard to a mobi site? Has anyone tried? |
