I Finally Upgraded To Windows XP!

Yeah, after using Windows Vista that was bundled on my new Laptop, I finally decided to upgrade to a better software, Windows XP.

Needless to say, I'm happy with the improved performance and usability that this older version of Windows offers. It actually treats me like someone who knows computers, as opposed to the newer Vista, which constantly asked questions, requests, trying to prove that I had picked up the mouse just two days ago.

I'm happy. I was finally able to connect my two laptops with a Cat5 cable, something that had eluded me for two months!
I also manage to save about 1 hour everyday because I'm not asked countless dumb questions, and neither do I have to hunt for hours in the Control Panel to find the things I want to change.

I'll admit though, changing the desktop wallpaper was a breeze in Windows Vista. Isn't that why we all buy computers for?

Vista gives too many headaches, yesterday I tried to find ad/remove programs in control panel but couldn't. Probably coz i was in a hurry to go but I'm sure it was not there where it had used to be in XP. So i stick to my XP in my desktop PC.

Hit the start, type "programs" in the search box and it will come up :)

It's called Programs and Features. Coincidentally, I am unable to uninstall most programs for some reason...vista bug :)

I found that after six months of vista, it bogged my computer down, and I mean physically slowed the whole performance.

I too have upgraded (back) to XP

Technically you all 'downgraded' instead of upgrade ;)
Personally I have used nt4 until last year, that is to the bone.

Kate, I thought I was the last person to shut down nt4 a few years back, and you still had one running a year ago! I finally shut my nt4 down out of boredom and concern for the the hardware going poof one day, and of course security. I kept it around just for fun. The only things that were able to beat it were my linux servers. I have had some of them up and running for years without reboot. I am *not* a Microsoft basher, but I do think that the Vista release was premature, but I am also sure that the bugs will be fixed. As for "to the bone", I prefer the unix/linux command line... but I am old and set in my ways.

Congrats!

I prefer windows 2000ME but I'm using vista. Why you ask? Everything is crap when it first comes out. Take xbox 360s for example. Didn't everyone say the same thing about windows xp?

Vista's a good OS. It just needs to be patched up a bit more. It'll be good in two or so more years now... For now, XP 0wns it by a lightyear.

The only reason I upgraded from ME was so I could use an app that wouldn't run under ME. Still have ME on my original computer and think I'll skip Vista for a bit. (My brother just "upgraded" to Vista last night.. so far, he's still tweaking, etc. I'll see how he fares but probably won't upgrade until my next new computer)

Vista is a more powerful system, but a caveman would prefer a stick to an AK-47. You just need to figure everything out, and it works just great.

I wonder how these cave men would cope with buggy operating systems??? :sold:

Funny, Vista is still buggy and laggy, yet Microsoft is already working on the next version of Windoze!

Chicago (IL) - Several industry sources have confirmed to TG Daily that a very early version of Windows 7, previously code-named Blackcomb Vienna, already has been shipped to “key partners” as a “Milestone 1” (M1) code drop for validation purposes. A roadmap received by TG Daily indicates that the new operating system will be introduced in the second half of 2009

Vista is a easy to use OS....but after a period of time it really does slow down the overall performance of a computer.

As a hobby, a friend and I put computers together for people that want an upgrade or new computer. We don't put vista on any more, not because it's hard to use or difficult in any way, in fact I think it is quite awesome, but because it will eventually bog down the system. We can't work out why....it just does.

I'm running a top line dual core system and my friend a quad core system and down grading from vista to xp has been like upgrading from a VW to a high end sports car, as far as speed performance is concerned. :imho:

would a caveman shoot an AK-47 or use it as a club?

When Microsoft made Windows XP, I saw a screenshot of it and thought, "Wow, they finally made an OS for little kiddies, what with all those pretty, vibrant blues and greens 'n all!"

The older "block" style of windows that hung around since Windows 95 is seriously outdated. I prefer Vista for its usability. Just disable UAC and don't download anything weird, and you're good.

But, I do have Windows 98 running on a Virtual PC for legacy purposes. While Windows isn't what I'd expect from such a large company, it sure beats XP. I hated XP. It was totally unstable, and slow. I hated the "pretty" interfaces. I hated how effects had to be forced in order to occur. (It wasn't as "natural" as with Vista or a Mac).

XP was annoying. Vista is a lot more "organized" than XP. I prefer simplicity and organization to, well, XP. I just wish Vista had a "smart people" mode that would let me do what I want to do, like delete a file when I order it to delete one! Otherwise, fewer complaints than XP.

This topic is making me wish I bought a copy of Vista for my new computer - just for comic value.

I'm still running Win2K and am mostly happy with it, except I'm starting to find more and more internet things that aren't supported, so I guess I'll have to make the switch soon...
