Thanks...you just gave me an idea, and I was able to pick up "FreeRingtunes.mobi" for reg fee! "Ringtunes" appears to be a quite widely used term, according to a Google search on it.
I managed to pick up:
aperture.mobi
mobiphones.mobi
exposure.mobi
panoramic.mobi
imagegallery.mobi
limitededition.mobi
panoramas.mobi
photographic.mobi
whitsundays.mobi
We will c what happens to these down the track, can always be used for my photography. Sorry to change the subject here, but a few days ago when checking for generic/dictionary name(s) at the time "available" only for it to be placed under "premium name list" a few days later. It has happened to me!!!
Maybe try using Moniker to check for .mobi names. I have two I keep checking at Moniker that should be premium names, but they're still listed as "available". I hope they're still there after the price drop.
UPDATE: One of the domains was daybook.mobi which was taken (very recently) by someone who has put up a pretty nice site. I KNEW that I should have grabbed it!

Mmmm... Maybe they have some sort of system running that picks up searches done by ppl, just grabbing the best ones automatically-going by the No of whois' that are typed in using the same names.
I just regd imagegallery.mobi in case they grab that too! I'm keeping my eye out for the other ones on the premium list now, see what they go for!
I saw United-Kingdom.mobi go by on the latest entries screen at SEDO today.

Google search results for MOBILE WEB.... Exclusive to .mobi domains.
It's a very short step from here to Google detecting that the search is originating from a moble and just delivering .mobi results.
As a Business, on the web... can you afford to NOT have a mobi site and be listed in Google's .mobi search results?
LOL... and so it begins.

Caution guys (& gals), I don't think .mobi is going to take the mobile world by storm overnight. With the average person only changing phones every 2-3 years, it could take some time before the .mobi becomes a default extension as in being added to software and default mobile search lists. I still see a lot of names that I really don't think will ever sell on a secondary market in the first couple years. The .info and .us TLD's each took about 3 years to mature as well. I think to have any short term value (less than 3 years) I'm using the following rules.
1. Would a person who is mobile search for something under this name (generic is probably the best bet). If a person would or could wait until they get home, they probably will. Things like movie times, restaurant/hotel directories, weather, sports scores, address lookups, and immediate needs probably have the most value.
2. Is it short enough to type on a 10/12 button phone? Hyphens are not fun to type on a regular keyboard. Many cell phones take several steps to find non-alphanumeric characters. I'd avoid long or hyphentated names unless you expect them being found in a mobile search engine. How many actual keystrokes does it take on a 10/12 key phone. Just typing ".mobi" until it defaults in software is 10 keystrokes (1,6,666,22,444) (if they'd picked .WAP as the TLD it would only have been 3 keystrokes)
3. Is there a customer for the domain? If you don't plan to develop yourself, then who would buy the name? If the list is short or the potential users would use another name like their brand name, you may not have a potential buyer.
I do think .mobi will have some sucess, as it will likely be forced on us by the mobile industry. I just don't think it will be in the first year or so. On the other hand, the forced two year registrations give two years for it to mature before having to renew.

Now that I look at them, aren't they even harder to input than alpha characters? You have to go through all of the characters before getting to the numbers. Is there a way to turn off the characters when dialing? I think these may be less desirable than I originally had planned.
I've realized this as well. Although NNN & NNNN are somewhat rare, they can be hard to remember and type-in for most people. If you want real value, stick with short, generic/brandable, mobile-related names.
I agree. Words are a lot easier to remember (and brand) than numbers (what's easier to remember, a 7 digit phone number or a 7 letter name?). (Example: "Wait, was that travel site I heard about 378.mobi, 387.mobi, 738.mobi, 783.mobi, 837.mobi, or 873.mobi ?? damnit, I can't remember!! I'll just go to travel.mobi...")
You bring up an interesting point about the 'numbers', and the way they are dialed. I've been thinking (worrying) about this myself over the past 24 hours, because I was considering making an offer an a couple NNN.mobi that are currently for sale.

I'm not sure if anyone has seen any .mobi registration figures yet, but in my .mobi mining tonight I am realizing that there is rampant speculation going on here. The dot mobi domains are already a carcass that has been quite mutilated and picked over. If you are waiting for the price drop, I'd suggest that you not wait if you can find a domain.
