Check this guys website. Talk about spamming keywords!! I hope he gets penalized for it, although he's coming up in 7th position on google for "web design link exchange".

This page has the most:

http://www.amerifocus.com/linksexchange.htm

...but he's tryin to hide keywords and spam on all the other pages also. The things some people will do just to get ranked...

pretty bad - He could have just put a paragraph and one <H> tag and still would have placed that high. The keyword is not very competitive. he/she is trying way to hard.

Whatever you might think about this guy's approach, surely what is on offer is not likely to help any site's 'link popularity'?

My best friend's husband found a 'link exchange' scheme that seems to be different. It's free to join and seems to be there to help the sites that the owner of the scheme hosts.

The idea is that you join and your site gets added to a database that provides 'matches' for your site's keywords and theme(s).

Then, periodically, it sends you a list of these matching or complementary sites. You go and take a look at them and see whether you agree that linking would be worthwhile to you (or them).

Finally, if you're convinced, you can contact the relevant webmaster(s) and set up mutual links.

This way seems more likely to help your site's perceived value to the search engines, in that the links are (hopefully) relevant and not just 'scattergun'.

What's anyone think about this approach? My friend has subscribed, but has only had a few matches so far - but it's early days, as they say.

It's viewable at:
Value Exchange

Wow, I thought the gray column "hidden" text was bad, but then I scrolled all the way to the bottom. Geez!
