I would say it depends on if and how they advertise. If they have TV commercials that you know of, then I think BlueSquarePoker.net could see a lot of typo traffic if it's BlueSqPoker.net that they advertise. However, I'm willing to bet they don't advertise on TV. I can't imagine them saying "Go to Blue S Q Poker .net"...just doesn't sound very good sounded out. Anyways, if they DON'T advertise on TV and instead they are advertising on the web such that people are clicking links to go to the site, then you're probably not going to get a whole lot of typo traffic, if anything because not many people are typing it in. That's a black hole I've fallen into before too...getting typos of sites that, simply put, do not get typed in despite having a lot of traffic.

NameTrader,

In your experience what is the multiple of Overture with extension to page impressions on your parked pages?

For example an OVT with ext of 100 would average how many page views per month?

I'm trying to get an idea of how many people type xyz. com in the search bar vs the address bar.

the question wasn't for me , but i will try to explain to you something specialy about th elast thing you said , but you can still wait for the answer of the guy you asked...

what people dont understand is the majority of the ovt scores does not come from the typing of the domain in the search bar , it came from the address bare because ones you install one of the toolbar "yahoo in this case of ovt" and you go a head and enter an address like www dot whatever dot com in the ADDRESS BAR, if the website is slow to respond or your connection got lost for a sec... the tool bare by default drives you to the yahoo search engins with the request of www dot whatever dot com , that is where the trick is for the ovt to be a good score to value the domain name traffic specialy for smart typo lovers , i have heard and saw posting that did talk crazy about ovt is not accurateand blabla , if it was not yahoo wont put it as a service for people who wants to find out the best searched terms and then yahoo is not acurate ...
i was just trying to explain to you that that there is nothing like searchbar vs address bar

the thing is that yahoo even google now does it , wants to profit too from the LOST traffic if the website dont respond faster enaugh... MSN used to have all that for them self but now with th etool bars they start to profit for that by adding that feature in the dll of internet explorer , but it is good for us only when yahoo tool bar is there not google lol ,

thank you
tv

Hi all,

Can someone tell me from its own experience, how do www-targetname.com type of typo domains (hypen) compare with other nearby-letter typos?
For instance, which one of these 2 do you think will do better:

cucumbr.com
or
www-cucumber.com

Thanks!

Sorry Croach, I didn't notice this thread was having activity again (which is always cool!). I generally see about 20-25 times what the OVT amount is in visits per month. That's about what I've seen with my MySpace.cc and the traffic on that name is almost entirely type-in traffic. The name no longer has OVT w/ext but it had for several months. Imagine how much traffic MySpace has to get for MySpace.cc to act as a TYPO of it!

I don't have any experience with typos like www-cucumber.com, but that's not really a typo...that's more of someone trying to get SERPs (higher placement in search engines). The - is nowhere near the period. A better "typo" would simply be wwwcucumber.com, and I don't think those typos even really do that well...I think a name would have to have mid to high xx,xxx OVT w/ext for wwwname.com to have much traffic to speak of.

You are right, "-" is nowhere near "." , on the US and UK keyboard. However, on the mexican, italian, german, and spanish keyboard and some others, the "-" is right next to "." You can guess- I am from europe.
check it out:

italian: http://www.sussex.ac.uk/its/facilit...rds/italian.gif
german: http://www.sussex.ac.uk/its/facilit...ards/german.gif
spanish(Spain): http://www.sussex.ac.uk/its/facilit...rds/spanish.gif

I'm a typo addict, 90% of my portfolio are typos , I've registered/tested several typos and from my experience, the www-, c.com and l.com typos are the worsts.
But there are some exceptions of course.Per example, I've one "c.com" typo which real site have an ovt score of high xx,xxx and the typo gets about 8 visits/day.I also have a l.com with xx,xxx that gets almost the same visits.
I've registered several www- typos, most of them with high xx,xxx OVT score and none of them worth to keep.
I'm sure that there are some www- typos that worth keeping, lets say per example an high paying keyword site that gets about 2 or 3 visits per day and with a ctr of 90%...
IMO the best to reg are the missed word typos. Some www are ok too.
Overture could be a good indicator but shouldn't be the only reference to check before buying a typo.Google can help a lot!
To finish, I've a "wwww" typo (yes, its four W's ) that gets about 7 to 9 visits per day...
If you're freak like me, than you should think and re-think several times before you reg a typo.
Some could be very profitable but in 60% of the cases you will only get 4 or 5 hits per day...If you have a high paying keyword site with good ctr then you hit the jackpot!

Thats my 2 cents

Thanks for the helpful post. I just picked up AutoLosn.com and parked it at Fab. I figure it should get some decent typo traffic. I also own Bussinesloan.com and have made some decent returns on it. I even got an $18.36 click last week. The day before and after were $6+ clicks, so not a bad return for $7.

I cross fingers. Not to say that domain tasting is immoral and people shouldn't do it, but it's just not for me. Not only that, but a lot of times, typos I've gotten haven't immediately been good but have grown better over time. I have a ton of great typos of Vegas Poker 247 including Vegas247.net, and now that they are sponsoring tournaments shown on live TV, they are doing better than ever.

If it does as well as my bussinesloan.com, I will have some decent returns. Autolosn.com is showing good type in so far at Fabulous. I think this thread has been a great educational tool for finding names that CAN provide consistent income. Better than the good names that I own that gets no type in and langish in parking pergatory.

If the domain you want to typo is name.com, "c.com" typo would be namec.com (a form of double-hitting a letter) and "l.com" typo would be namel.com (l being close to the period, that would be a fat fingers typo).

Some excellent info here

I am wondering if this is the right place for this, but I need to know about TM's.

I have a few different typo's such as xgox360.com and disneychannwl.com - which gets a few clicks, since kids are such bad typers! I am just wondering what the chances of being sued are? I am just parking the domains, rather than putting content of them - but can't imagine that makes a whole lot of difference.

i usely stay away from the TM , i think you may get a letter from thier lawyer first to hand over or to cancel the registration of the domains and a hand writing stating that you will not register them again faxed to the lawyer that is the way they usely go, if you say no then you get sued big time , but the bad thing they get mad at is if the website are for kids and the typo is used in bad stuff like por# or adult crap , that is the bad thing... there is some stupid heads does bad acting like that that what deserve a big law suet

So - the worst that could happen is that they are taken away? I wont get sued straight away - I can just earn some money until they decide it's time to hand them over? That's not so bad...

Just make typos from sites with big alexa traffic. Try to find domains with letter combinations that use to be misspelled (ss, ll, ck, cc, h and more).

I'm a newbie, is typo-squatting illegal. Is it wrong? Why all the fuss. Does one really steal traffic from the sites? In my opinion, most surfers will eventually retrace their steps back to the original sites.

Yep, seen that too. While much smaller than Ovt/Yahoo, you can also check typos using the AOL data. Evaluate your findings using the ratio of incorrect to correct spellings. One option is "Alternative to Overture?".

BTW, great thread!

Well , it does not work 100% , if there is a TM issue they will contact the provider of the Whois Privacy system and they will have to provide for them your information that way they can send you a letter about the issue

Typo traffic is valuable because it is usually targeted. If someone owns a myspace content site (avatars, templates, codes, etc.), the people trying to visit myspace.com by visiting myspaces.com would probably be willing to stay a few minutes and see what they have to offer. Another reason it is valuable is because typos can be "parked" at pages that just display ads. Choose the right keywords for a parking page, and the actual site they are trying to get to may be linked to by the ads. If this happens, the visitor will most likely just click that ad, rather than retype the address, thus earning you cash.

Thanks a lot for the info here.

I had a question regarding trademarks.

Let's say there was a site hello.com and I registered helol.com. Now let's say months or years later hello decides to trademark their name.

Can they come after you at that point?
