I think we have a great future ahead for LLL.in, though tbh, currently companies are more interested in keyword.in - surprising but then only 5% of the whole population is even online and most of those use it for email or to earn money.
LLL.co.in - I don't see too much of an immediate return on this, but like all tlds eventually these will run out, when is the key here coz decent ROI might take a few years.
The .in/.co.in promo was Oct 2007 - Mar 2008, a few hundred thousand names were registered in this period. So oct '08-mar '09 should see a small dip in prices, not to mention drops, before firming up.
.co.in has its own place in the sun, has been around longer too, more credibility developed as earlier it was mandatory to have documentation (company registration etc) to get the name in .co.in
Problem is that .in is just shorter... and a preposition, plus it has greater acceptability, both among the domaining community and the new developer initiatives.
wot has sold more than a few .co.ins but he's right, do a search, been discussed extensively before.
You're correct that the same keyword for .in will never equal to .com - its simple logic really, .com is a gTLD, .in is not, even though its being used as some.
But I look at this a little differently - a good/great domain name comes out of the advertising budget for most companies. But ad spend itself is around $5 Billion annually, not a small market by any means. Prices will go up for sure long term, for which term and by how much is anyones guess.
Net penetration and bandwidth is still pretty low, can only grow.
We are not renewing for 10 years but rather have secured the financial structure to support 10 years worth of annual renewals. This money can be invested in other assets and grow steadily until it is needed for renewals.
That said, the best names are going to be blessed with multi-year renewals.
The current renewal price is very cheap relative to the rapidly growing value.
