It's like me telling Google their site is worthless because it doesn't get a hit on "JoeBob's Serch-it-all" website.

Also... I've been told on numerous occasions that Overature does NOT include searches for Yahoo, Infospace and others... it only logs what is searched AT Overature. Period.

So again, why is OVERATURE so special? Why do so many people use such a SMALL and INSIGNIFICANT engine like that to value domains?

Especially when it is in direct conflict of such prominant and highly used engines like Google?

Am I insane or does that make absoutely NO sense? To ignore Google's ratings in favor of a isolated, underused site?

IF you are a BUYER, than I can understand talking a domain price DOWN becuase it doesn't appear on an obsure search. But as a SELLER, I think people hiding behind Overature are ripping people off.

By the way, Mircrosft.com is a worthless domain because it doesn't show up as being searched on JoeBob's serch-it-all either.

Saying a domain doesn't "count" because it doesn't get searched on Overature is like saying there is not AIR because you can't SEE it.

Please explain the logic to me.

Scott

I don't think you understand what Overture is. It compiles the number of times the same keyword(s) (in any order) were searched from certain search engines. When you say "a domain doesn't "count" because it doesn't get searched on Overature is like saying there is not AIR because you can't SEE it", you imply that people are searching on OV which they are not. OV simply shows number of times it was searched last month. If your site comes up in the top results of Google, but doesn't show up with ext in OV - that's because no one searched for "gopc.com". They searched for keywords that brought them to your site. They may have even searched for "go pc" or "gopc", but without extension. That's why the OV with ext doesnt show in the OV results. "gopc.com" was not searched.

Nobody. It's not a search engine.

It can be easily manipulated for ov with ext results as I said before. If buying a domain where someone is quoting OV (eg. ksuhasdsjs.com - 48 OV WITH EXT!!!!) but can't show any traffic or revenue, they probably searched their own domain with extension on Yahoo 48 times last month to get those results.

Google is a great way to see how popular a keyword or term is, but Overture show (albeit not perfectly) how often that keyword was searched.

Well actually it is but it only shows PPC results. If you go to http://www.overture.com you will see at the top a form with a button that says "Search the Web:". But Nobody uses that. Why would they. It's only PPC results.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=167154

Therefore the OVT tool results are coming from all searches on all the site's on OVT's network of sites, not just searches made on overture.com. That would be silly.

Not frustrated at you. LOL!!!

In general, I'm laughing at the circular argument that I keep hearing that Overature is King but nobody knows WHY it is or WHY it is so weighty.

Just one of those "it is becuase it is" things, eh? LOL!

It's only PPC results? This is even more convoluted then I thought. LOL!!!

So the painted picture here is that OVT shows Sites that have high PPC that are searched because interested buyers are looking to buy high PPC sites?

So searchers ARE trying to equate value by looking at how many times the site they;re interested in is ALSO being eyeballed by others?

In other words, It's a BLUE CHIP PPC search.

IF true, that explains everything.

Too funny

Scott
