Full disclosure - I have investments in both, more in .US than .MOBI.

Right now I'd say .MOBI, but .MOBI is the high flying internet stock and .US is the Dow Jones Index, just plodding along, growing slowly but steadily.

For pure upside? .MOBI hands down if it continues like this. For safest investment? .US

All the above assumes you're registering good domains with the right fit for the extension. .US and .MOBI serve very different needs and crap is crap is any TLD.
