sooner or later we will have 0%, the only question is when. So if you want to have some fun, llll.com is a safe bet.

Thanks to DYYO.com I have been following a small segment of the LLLL.com market for the last month.

Now granted these are (I hope) some of the best remaining names, but the churn rate is really high. The total number in the group is 115 - that is the 100 that were available a month ago and the 15 that have popped back in. About half of the domains have gone missing at one time or another. There are 70 listed as available as of yesterday and I suspect 30 to 50 more are being "tasted".
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/short-domain-discussion/161235-llll-com-countdown.html

Yesterday was the fifth time I checked the group and there were three names that I had never seen in the other four checks. (One was, I suspect, a drop)

If you want the best domains in a section check back several times.

There are 385k 4 letter domain names in the .com zone file. Around this time last year there were 335k. At this rate it will be another year or two before all 457k have been taken.

4 letter domains running out mentioned in the news!!!

I just thought I'd mention this article as I think that it is relevant to the thread. They say that 97000 four letter domains are remaining. They also say that 70 million .com domains have been registered. I thought that it was closer to 60 million?

I think that the rate is still increasing so probably 7 months (I'd guess)

It may not be the letters themselve but the combination of letters IMO aren't that great. However I was eyeing Vlil.com a few months back. That one has the best combination of letters out of the few you posted IMO.

I think that it's a matter of being in the right place at the right time with the right selling strategy. Some places are easier to sell than others. Some months are easier to sell than others. Some ways of selling are easier than others. Patience and persistance are key skills that a domainer needs to do well. Many people are happy to pay more than $15 for your names but they have to find you.

the extreme variation in numbers is probably a result of the taster registrars.... it is better to track the numbers remaining over a 3+month period to get a more accurate feel....the numbers are still gently declining..

I don't think I'd be able to sell VGPF.com for more than $10 resale if I had it... that's how LLLL.com has been lately, unfortunately...

It doesn't make sense to me that Y is so unpopular when there are so many things it can stand for, and can also be used to make domains pronouncable.

After all, the #1 site on the web in terms off traffic begins with a "Y" and Google just paid 1.65bn for an 18 month old web site that also begins with "Y".

Sometimes the trick is to move in to something which is currently unpopular if you see some potential. It is not always wise to follow the crowd. Y and V starters might be the next names to attract the locusts as the pool declines.
