I think I have enough hyp-hen domains now, hy-phens.com available I think , but just a tip.

Check out recent sales and upcoming auctions, for instance Moniker Internext, just picked up three hyphen names of which the non hyphenated versions are in the "live" auction - including Keg-Party.com the .net regged in 2000, .org two years ago.

San-Jose.com

Am looking to sell San-Jose.com.

San Jose is 10th largest city in US with a population of 900,000.

The only other sale I can find reported of a hyphenated city domain is New-York.info which has changed hands again recently and sold for $22,000 (namebio).

I have had a few sample pages designed:
http://www.san-jose.com
http://www.san-jose.com/san-jose-nightlife.html
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=161100
http://www.san-jose.com/voodoo-lounge.html

Yahoo seems to have picked up on the fact that I have developed two pages relating to nightlife as it is No.7 for San Jose Nightlife...

Thought I'd join the discussion and see what valuation!!
PM if interested in buying.

Worth a shot as they're BIG on geo domains and they don't seem to mind hyphens. (although that would of course depend on the price)

I have Flip-Flops.com and I think it's one of the few domains where a hyphen is expected because the term "flip-flops" often contains a hyphen anyway. I recently listed it for sale on a few forums so we'll see if anyone agrees with that logic.

If not, I'll probably create an affiliate site with Zappo or Amazon or something like that. I also have the .net, .org, .info and .us versions of the domain so maybe I'll become the "flip-flops" king. Or not...

Probably not, unless the 2 keywords are very very strong ones and you are willing/able to develop them.

Parking and waiting around for a domain name to grow in value could take years. Some domain names registered in 2002 are not worth the registration fee if you don't have a good one. Still, if you like dashes but don't want to actively develop the domain or market it to end-users as you say, you could probably just get a rare investment quality one and hold onto it while it grows in value. L-L, L-L-L and L-LL are ones that come to mind.

dashes --

I luv dashes! look at the results on this post alone. There are 1000's of them making a decent buck I'd say. Why would someone say stay away from them? If your English is bad get a dictionary and thesaurus, start scraping through the major auctions and aftermarket sales results to see what is selling and for how much. Then tailor your searches for names accordingly. Sounds easy but the hours are killer. I must have a 500 domains all ready to reg in my vault that are hot keywords or 2-3 word phrases that are very very applicable to specific markets and many have hyphens in varied ext.

hyphen away!

1-Dash Domains - If it looks like a phone number and walks like a domain, it Quacks, "Mobile, Mobile, Mobile!!"

1-Pizza.com (1-Dash Domain)
1-Pizza.mobi
1-74992.com (74992 spells Pizza on a phone keypad)
1-74992.mobi (1-Dial Domain)

The 1- mimics a phone number so it's a great memory trigger for people using a phone to connect to the web.
