Good idea, could you check that out and work up a celeb list of sorts... I'm working on asian companys with ties to the island, with the idea of a larger push outside of NP and keying on the low % of asian donors and try to take this national.
I will try and look up some from the US in a few days. I will let you know what I find when I do.

Canadians in the house?

sunken/Totalfark gave me a contact (thank you!) for potential marrow donors in Canada. I sent an email inquiry, and got this in reply:

Quote:
Hi Apollo- I was very sorry to hear about your cousin- I hope that she's doing well and I'll keep my fingers crossed that she'll have a good outcome.

There is no cost for registering or donating bone marrow in Canada, or for the procedure itself, and if necessary hotel and travel costs are paid for by Canadian Blood Services. From what I understand (I've had a couple of friends who have donated- I'm on the registry but haven't been matched yet), the bone marrow is actually harvested under a general anaesthetic (you're out of the hospital the same day), and then you'll probably feel like you have the flu for one or two days. I'm not aware of any risks to the donor from donating.

Canadian Blood Services is part of the international registry, so if there's a match it doesn't matter what country you're in. You can register online (the Bone Marrow information is at http://www.bloodservices.ca/centreap...e?OpenDocument), and then they will start the matching process. I would definitely contact them with any questions- we have friends from the hospital who have received transplants from them, and from everything I understand they're a wonderful organization to work with, and very helpful.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/the-break-room/159492-urgent-please-help-save-my-cousins.html
I'm sorry that I don't know more, but hopefully that will get you started! And good luck to your cousin...I hope that everything goes well.

Apollo, I've been doing some digging on Google to try and find some celebrities who endorse Filipino Bone Marrow Transplants but haven't had much luck yet. But the Filipino Reporter has been in business for 34 years so it would be read by a lot of Filipinos. They may be willing to add an article about Christine if you write one up and contact them.

http://www.filipinoreporter.com/

Also...

http://www.filipinoexpress.com/
http://www.philippinenews.com/news/

I think the chances would be higher for them to agree to an article on Christine if you contacted them personally rather than any of us on your behalf...

We’re going to find someone but what would help is a great idea to generate mass interest, something along the lines of MillionDollarHomepage.com but non profit.

With all the great minds that belong to the members of this forum I know we can come up with something.

I hope you find you person. You don't happen to have a report on what bone marrow type it is. I may be able to help if I knew what type it was.

As for the story I will spread the word up here in Canada and see if we can get some newspapers to help with the search.

Steve,

Sure know your help and offer of contacting papers in Canada is well appreicated in the effort, like the help by everyone else

As to the report on the type of bone-marrow, I don't think anyone that has even replied on the boards (including her cousin, MP admin armstrong) would have access to that (it is a medial privacy and legal issue). This is not to count the fact that such a report is not as simple as say asking "blood type" which could be "A-" or "AB+", for example. There are, as the first posts and links have stated, over 20,000 known marrow types. Other than doctors who deal with them (or a DNA/Gene expert), few folks would even understand it.

Apollo, my first wife (deceased 2001) was Filipino, and so I have some Filipino family and friends. I just saw this thread, but I will try contacting them ASAP to see what can be done.
Above all, I will pray for your cousin. I believe that will accomplish more than anything I could do on my own.

Take care,
Scott

I just updated http://christine.site.ph . In summary:

- One of the best way to help is to help aisanmarrow contact Filipino organizations or communities who may be willing to organize marrow drives.
- In the US, testing is free for minorities. Non-Minorities (caucasians, middle easterns) are asked to pay $25 for their typing.

thanks, all.
