Portfolio Page/Web Service Site

Hey guys,

Has anyone got any advice for building a web design service style site? I've designed many sites in all sorts of shapes, sizes and designs but as ever I despise my own work - what do you think makes a good site? I want to avoid overdependance on Flash as IMHO I think it makes some sites look a little lame and "shallow" if that's the right word.

What do you think though - colour schemes, graphics, technology used? I'm pretty fluent with PHP, HTML, SQL (Limited ASP but I'd rather stay away from that)

As I say I think I can build the site easily myself but I just need a spark of inspiration and a few targets in mind before I get started.

Thanks in advance,
John

my only suggestion to you Cobalt, is to look around at different pages, get some ideas from there, then build the site to your taste. Don't try to satisfy everyone elses taste, because if you do, you will probably not like the site yourself.

yes, you have to like your site in order to be confident when doing business for clients. Confidence is the number one thing, besides skill of course
