Goodluck but don't be surprised if you haven't heard anything. Remember it's the holidays. Give it until the later part of the week.

Good Luck - Don't Give Up.

It will take more than one afternoons work to get a sale.

In fact I spent several weeks just experimenting on the format of my sales letter, but as with anything, if you have faith and persevere you will have success eventually.

Well, some of you have asked for progress reports, so here it goes - I haven't had any sales yet. In fact, no one has even replied to any of my e-mails, although I'm quite sure most of them have gotten past the spam filter.

Well, as some great person (who weren't great enough to be remembered, obviously) said, "If at first you don't succeed, try again."

Either I'm not giving it enough time (I sent the emails out on Saturday/Sunday this weekend, so it's only been two working days now), or my letter template is not correct, or I'm targetting the wrong group of people. Either way, time to sit down and analyse just what I'm doing wrong here and see if I can set things right.

In the meantime, thanks for your support and encouragement, it is really appreciated!

Certainly, I wish you good luck, but I think you will be disappointed in your expectations. This is not the way to go! If somebody is interested in your domains they will contact you asking for your price not vice versa. This is the way 99% of the domain sales are done! Try to collect only quality domains with proven good traffic. Check the traffic by parking them at SEDO (for example) under your own account at least for 3 months! Instead of registering/purchasing too much of a number try to develop website(s) with good decent content. WHATEVER this content might be it should be something you really understand much better than the average person. Constantly update that content with fresh ideas. When you start getting more than 150-200 unique visits per day from search engines, you should know that you have succeeded. From that point on you can start earning money by selling your own services/products or by promoting/advertising third party offers.

Good luck! Keep in mind that it is very rare to be able to sell a domain at first offer. A company will buy a domain when it is the right time for them to do so -- not necessarily when one is presented to them. Companies usually buy a domain when they are actively looking for one and actively in NEED of one. A domain is not an item that most companies will buy just because they like it. A domain is purchased when the need arises. Therefore, sending one email will not get you results unless you are very, very lucky to have perfect timing. It will usually take many, many mailings over many months before one of the companies on your list suddenly realizes they could benefit by purchasing your name. Hang in there, and keep putting your domain in front of your prospective customers consistently and persistently over a long period of time. If you have a domain worth buying, you'll sell it.

Have to disagree. All my sales are achieved this way. It takes some work and more than just a few emails. I send my Emails to the addresses in the whois registry and any addresses on the site I am contacting. I always mark the correspondance 'For The Personal Attention Of... Private & Confidential' and always make it look like a polite letter than a piece of spam.

Sure people will come to you with a 'great domain', but the average new domainer does not have great domains so EFFORT is required.

Good for you! Obviously, you are among the 1% exception of the 99% rule I have mentioned above.

As I'm quite new to the domaining scene myself, I simply informed them that the domains are available for sale. While I do not have a particular price range in mind, I would be very happy to hear from them just how much these domains would be worth to them. Finally, I informed them that similar offers are being extended to other organisations operating in this field.

If I have any success with this operation (I've sent out about 50 emails already), I'll be sure to post my letter template in the Marketing section.

Regards,
George

Google and WhoIS, mainly. Check out this thread for an excellent guide to finding end buyers.

As a quick update, none of my domains have sold, most people didn't bother replying, a few said they aren't interested in .net domains. So, basically, I'm back to square one and resorting to dealing with resellers while I contemplate my next strategy.

Already sold my first ever domain for a whooping total of $15. I am rich.

Sincerely,
George

Well, so far, I haven't had much success, but I did get an interesting response from a guy thanking me for my offer and then telling me that as his domain isn't earning enough money, he can't afford to buy another one. Then he proceeded to offer me to become his broker and promised to give me 30% if I sell some of his domains!

Kind of ironic, as I just posted a thread in this forum on how I can't sell a domain to save my life...

Well...actually, you've sold one, which is one more than alot of us. I started out this whole journey wanting a new website, as I've written in the past, and was planning on "developping" my own website. Yeah right! I can't even figure out the simplest php! But now I'm looking at those (and now more!) purchases as investments.
You've definitely got some good ideas, and a professional attitude, and 30% is crazy mad commissioN!
