Finally got a delete contract on my final domain and now hope that 1and1 is out of my life. The lesson seems to be that if you leave either deletion or transfer of a listed domain to the last month of registration you will more than likely fail in your attempt and get renewal charges from 1and1. Best if you have a number of domains to start transferring or deleting with the maximum time available and certainly not less than 2 months, 3 months or more even better.

I finally cancelled all my domains with them as well.. believe me, short of an exorcism, it was the worst experience I've ever had in dealing with a registrar!

Hey, look, it's 3-dgridley.
Does this mean that we can safely assume that 1and1 does not receive your "Good Domainkeeping" certificate of approval, dg?

Really popped in just to give you the on the AV

Must say that it's a huge improvement over the photo of that crazy looking dude that you used to have up there.

I have to say that my experience with 1and1 has been 180 of what everyone is describing. When my card was maxed and they needed to renew 37 domains they sent me a rather polite email letting me know what was going on. When I told them it was the only one I had and would need to wait 21 days for the billing cycle to clear my limit (I pay the balance at the end of the month) they would then have their money. They told me no worries and on the date we agreed upon they charged me the amount due.

While I agree their customer service at times is crap overall I am quite happy with them.

Well you're not the only one tired of their services. I am so glad I took your advice before it's too late. Thanks

I've now been turned into the "collection agencies," actually, twice. Heh, I'm looking forward to this battle, actually.

I would suggest that (if you have not done so already) you warn your bank/cc provider in advance of the collection agency making a move. It is better not to have your credit rating affected if possible....
