From a Verisign report to REGISTRARS GOOD READ THANKS to Elequa for IMMING me this link

.tv - The New Face of the Internet
As the Internet continues to evolve from a text-based medium to one of multimedia, companies in all industries are offering video on their websites, and using .tv domain names to market and promote that fact. The early adopters of the .tv brand were television broadcasters such as Turner Network Television, Viva Television and NBC Los Angeles, who used the domains for the literal meaning of “tv”as television. However, over the past few years, companies and individuals all over the world have used .tv domain names to identify themselves with a video-based, rich-media experience, regardless of any association with the television industry. A few good examples are Farm TV; offering streaming video of farm properties and other real estate for sale, H2O TV; offering underwater video and online programs, and CVTV; an online service producing video resumes. The .tv domain provides different meanings for different users, and all of them relate to one common theme; video and rich media.

Now that broadband access has become commonplace, end-users are spending more time on Web sites seeking out rich content. Web site and portal owners are using video and rich content in the hopes that users stay on Web sites longer to generate advertising revenue. The .tv TLD is the address that is home to Web sites that are leading the convergence of the Internet, television and cable through services that put the control of content in the hands of the user/viewer. In addition, the two letter phrase ”tv” means the same thing in every country, in every language. The registrants understand the importance of these factors and are registering .tv domain names in increasing numbers worldwide. In addition, they are using them; 70% of .tv domain names are associated with a Web site, which means the .tv registrant is likely to use value added services.

Registrars can increase their revenues by adding .tv to their purchase flows as well as offering special promotions. Many registrants may not know about the value of a .tv domain name so Registrars have the opportunity to inform and sell this valuable TLD. With the Marketing Funds Program for .tv currently running, there is no better time to promote .tv registrations.

How long do I have to wait for the "REDEMPTION-PERIOD" status to go away?

I thought I could just backorder the name but it seems that you can't backorder .TV names: is that right?

Can anyone offer any insight? I'd rather not ask Verisign about the name because alerting them about my interest might screw things up for me, if you know what I mean.

Look for it probably to show up the end of November from what I have seen AMCY there is no back order service THANKFULLY, or the idiots that bid up .com will start to ruin .tv IMO

TV and CC Customer and Registrar Survey Results
Overview of Retail Customers and Registrars
TV and CC customer and registrars were contacted via phone for short surveys in January 2005. The objective of the survey was to find out how TV customers are currently using their domain names and learn from any success stories. And the objective for registrar surveys was to discover why their accounts had either increased or decreased in TV/CC registration activity.

Eight interviews were completed with TV retail executives. Their roles ranged from marketing, TV production managers, and program directors. IT and web management teams were excluded from the sample. The interviewed companies are Major League Baseball, The Economist, Future Planet, Ultimate Fighting Championship, Beantown Productions, Turner Broadcast Network, and Bacardi Global Brands. The geographic coverage is UK, Asia and US.

Nine interviews were completed with TV/CC registrars. Registrars were selected based on significant increase or decrease in TV/CC registrations in 2004. Seven international registrars and two US-based registrars were phone interviewed. Countries participated are Germany, France, Spain, Korea and US.

Highlights of customer surveys

Need to provide new technology such as blog pages
TV domains were purchased as an alternative to .com domains
Brand awareness is easier to create with entertainment sports
Successful use of TV domains will need to include the domain in all marketing materials and use of the domain as the main site not redirected
“demo” tape sites need to be created for easy access and quick viewing
Registration site for webinars
Surveyed TV customer sites

www.mlb.tv – “Success story (case study) was written on MLB.com/MLB.TV with SAS in November 2004. This report can be found at http://www.sas.com/success/mlbcom.html
www.beantown.tv
www.tnt.tv
www.h20.tv
www.ufc.tv
Highlights of registrar surveys

For TV –

Lack of market position and awareness are the barriers to TVdomains
Adding TV in the marketing portfolio increases sales
TV is associated with the Media Industry.
Majority of users do not register TV by itself. They are usually bundled with other TLDs.
Low knowledge within registrar base of customer profile, market trends or customer behavior
US registrars cite trend for defensive third level domain registrations, which customers do not like to do.
Incentives to purchase TV are summarized as
Brand protection
Higher name availability than .com
Perception that TV will indicate to consumers that the site features broadband broadcasting, video streaming, or related services
Speculators view it as an inexpensive investment
For CC –

Lack of market awareness is the general barrier to CC domains
Internationally, low perception as to position of CC
No significant linguistic or semantic connotation in Europe or Asia
Some customer in Spain associate CC with cubic centimeter
Increase in use CC domain for advertising pay per click (PPC) market
Incentives to purchase CC are summarized as:
Use as personal web sites cited in all three geographic regions
Brand protection, particularly in Spain where trademark and patent companies are currently raising the perception of importance of online brand protection
High name availability than .com or .net
Customers are going to the secondary market to purchase CC
European and Asian registrars perceive CC as having value in the secondary market
Motorcycle hobbies and motorcycle association are some of the positionings currently being used
60% of CC registrations are for brand protection, and 40% are for personal websites
Conclusion
Overall, the customers believe there is a lack of TV/CC positioning and branding awareness in the mass market. Creating TV with a media positioning could generate new demand in the market place. In addition, bundling TV with website and media enabled tools will increase interest in the purchase of TV.

Looking for ideas for www.glue.tv

What is the first thing you think of when you go to the site? (besides glue)

My thought for "glue" would be to brand it into a "upscale" type site that caters to a niche market.

Any suggestions is appreciated.

I'm also looking for ideas for www.bookclub.tv

I would really love to go off on this site. Create a TV site where new books are discussed. The problem is the upfront expenses vs early monetary returns. I'm sure I'm not the only .TV owner who is trying to figure out a way to create a "rich, media" site without breaking the bank. Maybe there are lowcost ways to do this right?

Any suggestions of course are appreciated.

wasistdas, to my knowledge "histeria" is not a word.

Assuming you meant "hysteria" or "hysterical" I think that's an unfair description of what's going on here. I don't see anybody screaming or displaying uncontrolled emotion. This thread is a place for .TV fans and supporters to discuss and exchange information with other likeminded domainers. They also welcome people still sitting on the .TV fence (like myself) and are friendly and open to constructive criticism. Regardless of one's personal feelings about .TV, I think this thread serves as a good example of sharing information in a friendly upbeat setting. Nobody is trying to force their opinions on others.

If you don't like .TV or have no interest in it, this thread is probably not for you. However, if that's the case you should actually appreciate this thread's existence because it's keeping all these hysterical .TV fans in one central location.

Thanks for the heads up AmCy!!! Lot of good ideas to be gleaned from that site.

Book Club's can be cash cow's if done right. My thoughts with this site would be to go after the 12:00 a.m - 6 a.m crowd. Too tired to sleep, but very happy to part ways with their CC # after watching a "Book Club TV Clip" on a particular book. (this is the idea anyways...now I just need to figure a way to do this on the cheap--lol).

I'll leave C-Span2/Oprah/Dr Phil/USA Today to have the "day" book buyers....

No I think names with 7 hyphens are what to get excited about S-c-o-t-l-a-n-d ? YOUR kidding right ? and as DB stated thisis a palce to discuss .tv and other tv related domains for those interested in that niche, also to be a resource for anyone interested in the ext I have already written extensively that you have to be very selective in picking names. AND no one here who is pro.tv Is looking for validation from anyone else it is actually better that most stay out so they can compete for 7 hyphen or 4 word .coms. IMO

Exactly IZO this is what I aske d before what are each others talents and would you like to collaborate to build sites that help benefit all the .tv domainers individually and as a whole. I agree with the other articles that I posted a few posts back about people having their own tv over the interne sites and also for video and rich media alot of ideas here could really do well we have to find the ways to handle streaming and graphic design int he best most economical way.

This thread has been brilliant, and has been extremely interesting and educational. Just wanted to let you all know that as a result, I have knocked together a small forum specifically for .tv domains.

You can have a look or maybe join at the following address....

Around.tv

This was basically a good excuse for me to play about with designing a forum, and getting all the bits working. This is in no way intended to take anything away from this great thread, which is usually the first one I head to each time I log on to Namepros.

Anyway, just wanted to say a thanks to everyone for the "inspiration" and good luck with all your .tv domains.

Alex

P.S - To the Mods: If I shouldn't have posted the weblink on here, please edit this post or let me know and I will remove it.
