Imho, the main reason why .tv could (and will) imho take over from .com is because in ten years, the internet will be not like as we know it today.. Ok its big now but imagine doing everything online. And 90% of your day to day activities online. Im not talking of sitting in front of a keyboard / monitor and searching through internet search engines. Mobile internet will become an invaluable and essential tool for 90% of daily communication.
Same with television/entertainment etc. Goodbye satellite TV, hello individual TV stations and large organisations streaming their own opt-in broadcasts. Which i know happens already but not to the extent its going to... [opt-in and optin.tv taken btw]
When i left school in (well sometime in the mid 1980's) we played on BBC Micro B computers, non networked and most scripts running on BASIC. And you can still see today old versions of shows like LA Law and i laugh to myself when there are no computers or terminals on their desks and there are people doing masses of paperwork...
Well, this is my point. Ive done very well in computing and domaining for a number of years now and my speciality is recognising and doing the next big thing. Like entering a room at a party and finding only a few people at the buffet, only for it to slowly become packed 10 minutes later. The empty room feeling is how i currently feel about .tv domains.
I disagree that the extension fits other avenues, well i disagree to the extent that "yeah they are ok but.....", but there are better examples still available for your $28.
The only problem i can forsee for us .TV domainers is 'yes' were all pretty smug right now, taking off the cream in perfect names that fit the extension, but i have this terrible feeling that once "our room" [see above] becomes pretty full, some new and emerging technology will take over and marry itself to the .tv extension thus leaving our names useless.
And while everyone in the .tv room was busy grabbing names in a new bun fight i will be at the buffet offering the sandwiches i stashed away an hour earlier when everyone else now wants sweet.
Joy.TV update: Joy.TV has been freed from the shackles of domain parking and is once again a great place to play some classic arcade games. Just added Pacman today (does it get any more "classic arcade" than Pacman?)
I have to say that regardless of one's personal views about .TV, this thread has been a huge success, and a great source of information. I respect the opinions of everyone here, and even though we all don't see things the same, it's great to see everybody able to discuss & debate the topic while remaining friendly and courteous. A big thumbs up to EQ78 for starting it (and his dedication to the topic), and to all the members that have participated.
Good stuff.

Just played Pacman at Joy.tv, that was a long time ago since I played that game
AmCy, on your site I read you pay a fee of $35 for this name at GoDaddy, is that correct? Or did you had a special deal paying premium fee up to 2014 and after that normal reg fee?
Good stuff, eh? Such fond memories. Something fun to do when you need a break from writing content for your websites. Yup.
No special deal. I got the name before Verisign started jacking up prices for LLL.TV names. I registered the name up to 2014 because I wanted to lock in the $30/year reg' price. I like the name so even if I don't get a decent offer for it I'll keep it and develop it further.
Nice post Ian glad to see you with a long informative post here, I think no matter what new technologies marry itself to .tv we will be on top of it in this thread, I believe numbers ,sports teams and Intuuitive .tv names will keep pace with whatever new technology comes along because you cannot be too HIGH tech for the Masses to embrace it.
AMCY I used to play Asteroids on your site all the time Now I see Arcade back cool.
DB thank you for the kind words much appreciated.
Domains are not a black hole if you have a plan and treat it like a business , if you just reg something that you like for a moment then you will probably throw money away. You have to know you can either flip it ,develop it, ppc it or sell it down the road.
John there used to be a glitch if someone regged a premium .tv and then after the two years dropped it when it went back to the registry it was not classified as premium I regged LCD the same way for $30
I agrree with this 100%. At the moment my plan is to take my best .TV domain (I only own 5) and devote all my time on it. A problem for me in the past was not focusing. With only one domain up, I shouldn't have a problem. Once that one is up and running, I'll get another up.
I'm extremely bullish on .TV domains right now for the simple fact they can help you brand a site.
Thank you AMCY I have always used that premise I thought there are 4 ways to go some names can apply any one of the 4, others only 1 or 2 Like LCD.tv I knew I could flip to RJ for $2000 he offered me in Chat , Develop it into the premier site for LCD TV's , PPC it did ok since I only payed $30 or SELL it down the road which I did.
I would like to talk about collaboration I think we agree for the most part the core contributors here, Development needed for .tv names I wonder how each can contribute something for the whole of one anothers sites and the ext itself? Comments, Ideas please I hav eno programming or graphics knowledge, Sales marketing promotional ideas contests and stuff plus research and copy editing I will be happy to contribute. What about Hosting, Design, Graphics, SEO, ETC......
